A Note from the Director
The Pratt Museum Staff and Board wish all of you a very merry holiday season and a prosperous New Year! Here at the Museum, the elves (construction, collections, and exhibits crews) remain extra busy through the remainder of the winter. Our "gift" of a renovated Museum building will be ready to publicly unwrap by May 2019! These improvements have been made possible with the support of our members, donors, and sponsors - and with your continued support, the Museum will be ready to better serve the community by this summer. Please consider renewing your membership by the end of the year, taking advantage of an extra eight months of membership! Keep track of our renovation progress by following our Instagram and Facebook posts, or by visiting our website. And on February 5, come to the Annual Membership Meeting and sign up for a hardhat tour this spring! There are many ways to stay engaged while we wait for the Museum's unveiling in May.
Happy Holidays!

Don't Forget to Renew Your Membership!
Okay everyone! It is the final count down of 2018, and you only have a few more days to renew your Pratt Museum Membership and get that extra long membership period for 2019!
Why should you renew before December 31? Good question! Here's why:
All current and new memberships who renew will have an EXTRA LONG annual membership duration!! If you renew before December 31, 2018, your membership won’t expire for 20 months—8 months longer than usual! This means you can make use of all your member level benefits through summer of 2020! Call us for details, if you have any questions, or to set up a membership for a friend! What an amazing deal to make the most of your membership, even though we are closed. Hang onto your membership so you can visit the newly renovated exhibit galleries when we reopen in May.
Once you've renewed, here are a few ways to keep connected with the Pratt while we are closed:
- Make the most of our ROAM option. This small additional fee gives you access to our wonderful sister museums around North America, all the way down to Panama!
- Subscribe to our e-newsletter to stay update on our amazing renovation projects. Current and past e-newsletters can be found here
- Vote in the membership election in January and attend the annual Membership Meeting on February 5, 2019 at the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center
- Follow @Pratt_Museum on Instagram, and watch for the hashtags #PrattMuseum, #PrattRenovation2018, and #Pratt50th to see awesome pics and updates!
To add ROAM to a current membership, subscribe to our e-newsletter, or if you have any questions, contact us at 235-8635 or email.
We look forward to seeing you at the Pratt soon, when we show off our improvements and new programs when we re-open next May!

Renovation Updates
All types of sights, smells, and feelings become the norm when you work on an active construction site. "Holy cats!" Savanna exclaimed on one memorable afternoon, "Collections has walls!" Stairs are in new locations, light switches are moving around as if they have legs, and the smell of sawdust gently permeates the air around us, from all corners of the building.
Change is exciting, and actively visible, even on one's trip to the restroom ("Hardhats on when moving around the building, please!"). Where is the kitchen? Well, right now the one downstairs is quite bare, so we travel through wind, snow, and rain to the Yellow House to see Savanna (yes, collections research and planning currently take place in another building entirely) and use the oven.
Scott is hard at work strategizing where certain exhibits will be, and formulating action plans to get new exhibit elements fabricated. Every changed vent location or wall or ceiling height means something has to be slightly shifted in his very intricate SketchUp files, and will require physical changes to exhibits when we apply those shifts to real-world moving in March and April.
Interested in hearing more about what changes are happening around the Pratt Museum? Drop by our Annual Meeting on February 5 at the Islands & Ocean Visitor Center.

Thank you very much to supporters whose contributions were received through Pick.Click.Give.! Because of your support, the Pratt Museum is able to fulfill its mission while inspiring people to explore Kachemak Bay and play an active role in the future of our region. Generous support of the Pratt Museum through Pick.Click.Give. is very much appreciated especially since it is unrestricted funds that may be allocated to education programming, collections care, food for the fish, or wherever the need is greatest. We hope others will join in giving to the Pratt Museum through Pick.Click.Give. in upcoming years when they file for their Permanent Fund Dividends. We are so grateful to this and previous year’s donors through Pick.Click.Give. for setting the standard for others to take advantage of this unique and helpful way of giving.
