Memorial & Reception
for founding member Marion Palmer
Friday, December 21 at 2:00pm with reception in the Parish House
Friends –
Few souls have had such a profound and lasting impact on the life of The Old Meeting House as Marion Palmer. As many of you know, Marion died last Saturday at Woodridge, at the age of 91. An original, founding member, Marion Palmer served as a surrogate mother for many of us here at The OMH – guiding us and teaching us all what it means to care – deeply – for one another. As Alice Angney said in her 40th Anniversary sermon (speaking of The OMH as a woven tapestry):
“There is one person who picked up the [weaver’s] shuttle, and has never put it down. She is a master weaver, one who has been counted on through the years, year after year, to help with the work. She doesn’t do flashy work, she assiduously avoids the lime light or credit, the glamour work goes to others, but if you need someone to put on a chicken pie supper, a harvest dinner, a father and son banquet, bake cookies for an event, solicit others to bring food, make aprons and crafts for the bazaar, take reservations for an event, clean the church, or be in church, the name on that list that jumps out to you is Marion Palmer.”
Marion was, truly, a master weaver of this church. If you love this congregation – our warmth, the way we take care of one another, the way we are committed to serving the world – in many ways you have Marion to thank.
So on Friday afternoon at 2 we will gather.
We will sing hymns that she loved, and give thanks to God for a life that, even now, shapes our community and our faith. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception in the Parish House. If you are able to help contribute to the reception in any way, please email Diana Fielder by clicking here.
And, if you are not able to join us for either the funeral service, or the reception following, I know you will join me now in my favorite prayer for times like these: that, as the busy-ness of the world is hushed, and her work is done, that Marion might, in God’s tender mercy, be granted a safe lodging, a holy rest, and peace at the last.
For all the saints, indeed, we give thanks.
In peace,
Elissa
