FISH FEEL

PLEASE HELP US HELP THE MOST

Fish, the largest category of exploited animals, are sentient beings who suffer some of the worst abuses. Your donation helps enable our advocacy on their behalf.  Fish Feel is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

It’s been another busy year for Fish Feel (highlights below). Our sincere thanks to all who help make our work possible through their financial support and other assistance. Every day we glean the news, industry publications, and other sources for information about fishes and share the most important and interesting items on our Facebook page. “Knowledge is power”! If you haven’t already, please Like and follow it, and share our posts to help inform others.

We are continuing to work towards putting an end to cownose ray bowkilling contests in the Chesapeake Bay. Mary represents the Save the Rays Coalition on Maryland’s Cownose Ray Workgroup. The state has yet to release a draft of its management plan for the rays. A public comment period is required before the plan is finalized, and we will alert you to it. We will also be working to extend the moratorium on the bowfishing contests.

“What Fish Know and Feel…and Then Some,” is the theme of the January/February issue of The Animals’ Voice magazine, which includes articles by Fish Feel directors Cam MacQueen and Mary Finelli.

Our outdoor event season got off to an early start when we tabled in March at the Big Bay Bash. Later that month we handed out literature at the National Aquarium (Baltimore) for World Day for the End of Fishing. In April, we tabled at the Veggie Pride Parade & Rally (NYC), where Mary was a featured speaker; and we co-sponsored Pottstown Pa.’s first annual Ecofest, at which we also tabled.

In June, Fish Feel co-sponsored and attended March for the Oceans, a premiere annual event involving more than 200 organizations and countless participants who rallied in Washington D.C. and around the world for protection of the oceans. Later that month, Mary was a guest on Calling All Vegans, a podcast broadcast from Toronto. We also tabled at the Richmond Vegfest and at the Animal Rights National Conference (Los Angeles).

In July, Fish Feel tabled at the Clarksville Vegfest, and in August at the Pittsburgh Vegfest. Later that month, we tabled at Vegan Soulfest (Baltimore) while the same day other Fish Feel volunteers participated in the Official Animal Rights March (Washington, D.C.). We finished out the month by helping to clean up a D.C. waterside park as part of Food Empowerment Project’s Fight for the Ocean Day.

Fish Feel started September with a group of volunteers carrying fish advocacy posters created by artist/activist Irene Ippolito for the Official Animal Rights March in NYC. Fish Feel partnered with other organizations in support of the Plant-Powered Planet Protectors contingent of the Rise for Climate March (San Francisco). Mid-month, Mary was the guest on KTEP El Paso’s ACT (Animal Concerns of Texas) Radio program. We celebrated the start of autumn by tabling at the Harvest Vegfest, York, Pa.’s premiere vegan festival.

In October, Fish Feel was given a primo tabling spot in Baltimore at the first Vegan Love Cookout. Thanks to Sharon Tucker for featuring Fish Feel in her video interview of the event (at 1:00).  We also alerted New York City activists to the opening of Zaou, a restaurant where customers can fish, meeting and protesting against it there with them.

In November, Mary was the featured speaker at Metro Detroit Vegan Diners Meetup’s Thanksliving event. Thanks to Susan Klein for inviting us, and to the group for sponsoring our trip! You can find details of these events on our calendar.  We are already scheduling events for 2019!

We will be announcing an important new campaign this spring, which we have been gathering documentation for throughout this year. For now, here is a link to Sunken Treasures, a wonderful article by Sylvia Earle, for your holiday reading. May the new year be one of progress for fishes and all animals. We are so glad to be able to advocate for them, and we hope you will please support our work! Thank you for your concern and compassion.
