Hi there,

This is our last newsletter of 2018! And what a year it has been. We published two extensive guides (Art of Employer Branding and Art of Job Interviewing), redesigned our website and we hosted our very own event series in collaboration with Spaces.

We can't wait to find out what 2019 will bring us :) Any ideas or suggestions? Let us know by hitting reply!

Some other news, our The Art of Attracting Talent event is expected to sell out this week, so grab your tickets while you can. We hope to see you on the 31st of January in Amsterdam!

As for this newsletter we're serving you inspiration on balancing a fulltime job with creative projects, why "unlimited holiday" isn't only amazing, an awesome 'interview question generator' and some insightful learnings from the Figma design team.

Want to help The Art of Work grow? Give us a shout out somewhere online or forward this issue to a friend. Keep up the good work!

See you in 2019, Happy Holidays!

Psst...follow us on Instagram to see what else we're up to!

HIRING

How we built the Figma Design Team

— Figma

Hiring is hard. We all know that by now.
When Figma started growing their design team they were suffering from unclear role expectations, inconsistencies in interview questions and unfocused debates about candidates. This is a fun read on how they turned themselves into real hiring pro's.

HR POLICY

We tried unlimited holiday, here's what went wrong.

— CharlieHR
Many companies (Homerun included) have implemented the unlimited holiday policy. Theoretically it's heaven, in reality it's hard. What to do when many people take plenty of holiday and others don't? When you have all the freedom in the world, it's sometimes easier to just stay home safely. The CharlieHR team experienced some of those issues and decided to change their policy.

HIRING

Interview Question Generator

— Linkedin
It's probably the question we got the most after publishing our The Art of Job Interviewing guide: what do you ask during an interview? We really wished we had time to come up with this, but lucky you, Linkedin stepped up with an awesome interview questions generator filled with questions to screen for hard-to-assess skills.

WORK LIFE

How to balance fulltime work with creative projects

— The Creative Independent

Many of us in the Homerun team run their own creative projects on the side, whether it's an art newsletter or a recipe app. But how to balance those creative projects with fulltime work?

That's exactly what this in-depth guide is about. Spoiler alert: boundaries, sacrifice, boundaries. Repeat.
