The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.―Eleanor Roosevelt

Greetings!

It's a treat to be back in your inbox with news to share, 10 tips {plus a playlist and video}, and three fun podcasts. You'll find all of this below.

Before you jump down, I wanted to share a story.

I've been reading about meaning, existentialism, and purpose recently. Meaning is this month's Year of Tranquility theme and aligns with all the reflection that goes into closing out 2018.

A few things stand out. It's not what happens that creates meaning, but the meaning we assign to what happens. Endings are the first, not the last act of the play. Think of what would be unlived if your life ended today.

With so much transition over the past few years, I've found myself seeking continuous sources of grounding—from baths, to swaddling in layers and scarves, to moving my body through ballet, to eating warm comfort foods, to always having a beverage within reach. You know, the basics.

Joseph Campbell wrote, "We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come. If we fix on the old, we get stuck. When we hang onto any form, we are in danger of putrefaction. Hell is life drying up."

Fresh on my mind after Paris, I penned a post about the art of evolution. As I move into these final days of the year, I'm longing to ensure meaning, evolution, and art is carefully woven into the day.

In a workshop, poet David Whyte asked, "What's one thing you could do today that your future self would thank you for?"

If you have a moment, hit reply and tell me what comes to mind for you. I'm over here cheering you along! Bisous. x

NEW Project

I’m delighted to announce my latest project, the Year of Tranquility book—a marrying of the Year of Tranquility program with the Playbook/Daybook for an all-new yearlong, BIG picture adventure in a full-color 8×10 book.

Inside the book you’ll find your favorite Playbook/Daybook features such as wellness, month’s dreams and review, year’s dreams and review, 32 Tranquility Tools, checklists, recipes, and more {sans weekly layouts}. You’ll also find 12 monthly essays, 4 weekly practices, and Savvy Sources on topics such as dreams, creativity, style, self-care, yoga, mindfulness, and more.

And, YES, there will be a 2019 program associated with it and that’s to be announced.

Oh, and the book will be available for pre-sale on Amazon shortly. More to come. Now, excuse me while I return to editing! Bisous. x

Tranquil Holidays

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.—Helen Keller

Ah, the holidays. Despite the festivities, garlands, and twinkle lights, this time of the year can feel a bit, well, less than tranquil. To combat the chaos, I’ve tried to adjust my expectations and output over the years.

No more holiday cards. No more piles of gifts. No more trying to squeeze it all in. No more guilt. Simplicity has become my motto. The space between Christmas and New Year’s Day is my rejuvenating reset button.

Our new tradition: head to Tim’s cabin in West Virginia, go to a movie and enjoy Chinese on Christmas Day, roll out the sofa bed in front of a never-ending fire, stay on said sofa bed to read, watch documentaries, and nap. Rinse and repeat for a few days.

What would be your ideal holiday? Time alone. Time surrounded by family. Travel. Staying home. Big meals. Takeout. Candlelight service. Watch Santa’s travel on TV. Big parties. A table for two. The ways to celebrate are endless and shift as we do.

Over the years I’ve dabbled with ways to keep the holidays feeling more tranquil inside and out. While this list is not exhaustive, the suggestions are tried and true. Try those that resonate.

Wishing you the happiest {+ most tranquil} of holidays! x
