Dear Resurrection Family and Friends,

As we begin to look toward the coming new year, we are excited to invite everyone in our congregation to experience a Taste of Alpha on Wednesday, January 16. If you find yourself wondering what exactly Alpha is or even if you have some experience with Alpha, we hope the information that follows will help give you clarity and also get you excited to come and experience Alpha for yourself!

What is Alpha?
Alpha is a series of gatherings exploring the Christian faith. There are three ingredients that go into an Alpha gathering: excellent food, a short talk, and a discussion at the end in a small group setting where you can share your thoughts. At Alpha, there is no question that is out of bounds. Our Alpha will run from Wednesday, January 16 to February 27 from 6:30-8:00pm. Dinner and childcare are provided.

Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for everyone. The evenings are designed to encourage conversation and explore life, spirituality, and the foundations of the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. Whether you have been involved in a church your whole life, have never even thought about going to church, or anywhere in between, Alpha is for you.

Why should I come to Alpha?
Our hope is that you come to a Taste of Alpha on January 16th with a desire to make friends, have fun, and with a willingness to ask questions, and that by coming, you find a safe place where you can share your thoughts, foster a continued clarity on the Christian faith, and gain a better understanding of the person of Jesus.

I’m interested. What do I do now?
Sign up to attend at resbalt.org/alpha! We are asking everyone to pre-register so that we can properly plan for food and resources. Also, this is a compelling opportunity to consider inviting your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers who also have questions about the Christian faith to a place where these can be explored in a safe, friendly, non-judgmental environment. Finally, there is an Alpha training on Wednesday, January 2 at 6:30pm if you are interested in volunteering to help.

I am excited for this new year and the start of Alpha – I hope to see you there!
~ Rev. John Kirby

Cornerstone: Laying a Foundation of Faith

This winter, Student Ministries will be offering a 12-week course called Cornerstone, offering an opportunity to learn more about the key components of our faith. We are pairing Cornerstone with the launch of Alpha, running for our adults, on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00pm. The first class for students will be on Wednesday, January 16.

If you’ve already been confirmed, or even if you’re not sure that you want to be... you are welcome to come and be a part of the Cornerstone experience.  You can drop in for as many classes as you’d like, with no commitment required. However, if you are interested in getting confirmed this year, then this course is required. Attendance of 10 out of the 12 weeks is necessary. Parents, if your son or daughter is participating as part of the confirmation process, there is a parent meeting one week prior on Wednesday, January 9. Have questions? Email Brad Boucher.
The Winter 2019 session of Res 101 will be held on Saturday, January 19 from 9:00am–12:00pm. This is the first stop for those who are in the “I’m just checking out churches” phase, the “I’ve been here a while and I’m ready to begin connecting” phase, or somewhere in between. It’s an opportunity to get clarity on what Church of the Resurrection is all about, and what it means to be a part of a Resurrection. You can register online or email Pam Waldhauser. Childcare is available, but please be sure to pre-register.

In addition, one of the components of Res 101 is an Instructed Eucharist where we walk through an entire service learning about our Anglican worship. The next Instructed Eucharist will be on Saturday, February 9th from 9:00-11:00am. Childcare will not be offered, however kids are welcome in the sanctuary and to attend the teaching.
