12|20|18 God With Us In The Waiting

<<First Name>>

When was the last time you had a conversation without the little ones interrupting?  It doesn’t matter how many times you tell them, “in a minute,” or “just one second, you will have to wait,” it doesn’t help.  Now I will admit, it’s not just the kids, I am terrible at waiting as well.  Yes, I am that person who starts pulling out Christmas before Thanksgiving is over.  It’s hard to wait!

Unfortunately, we are always waiting for something. Maybe you can hardly wait for the joy of Christmas morning to open presents and see loved ones.  Maybe you are waiting for an opportunity at work, like a promotion or a big project to wrap up.  Or maybe the wait is for something harder, like a diagnosis, or a recovery, or an answered prayer.  Waiting can be difficult, but we can get through it because we have a God who is with us.  We are never alone.

The Christmas story is filled with waiting.  The Israelites were waiting for their Messiah, the one who would restore God’s kingdom and free them as God’s chosen people.  Zechariah and Elizabeth were waiting for a child.  The wise men were waiting for a king, and Mary was waiting for a baby to be born, Jesus, Immanuel - God with us.  Yet in the waiting God was orchestrating something remarkable.  He was preparing to enter into the world in just the right time and in just the right place.

We live in an instant world, but God works in His own time and in His own way.  We may not always understand what God is up to, but we have hope, because we can know God, and we can trust Him, even in our waiting. Because God is with us.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Gordon
