Are you an undergraduate student looking for a first global health research experience?

The Global Health Scholars Program for undergraduate students is back for a fourth year! Outstanding McGill undergrads will have the opportunity to conduct global health research under the mentorship of a faculty member and receive funding up to $5,000 CAD.

Students from any faculty can apply to work on one of 20 local, Northern Canada, or International projects in a wide variety of fields including social work, psychiatry, social studies of medicine, management, policy and environmental health.

***New this year, we will be holding four information sessions to learn more about the specifics of the program. Attendance to one of the following is mandatory to apply. ***

Are you a Masters or PhD candidate doing research internationally in  a low or middle income country (LMIC) or in Northern Canada and looking for extra funding?

The McGill Global Health Scholars program for graduate students is designed to support McGill graduate students (Masters and PhD) from any faculty engaged in global health research projects. Selected students will receive up to $3,000 CAD to travel costs, dissemination costs, and a small stipend.

Are you looking to get experience in reporting on global health or leading a global health publication?

The McGill Global Health Outreach Projects offer McGill students (undergraduate or graduate) the chance to to either report on an overlooked global health story and receive a  $3,000 US stipend as a Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting Student Fellow or become Editor-in-Chief of the Perspectives on Global Health Blog or Editor-in-Chief of the Prognosis student global health journal and receive a $2,000 CAD stipend.

An optional information session on the Pulitzer Student Fellowship will be held on January 17th at 12:00 in Trottier 1090. You can RSVP here.

How can students use journalism skills to communicate global health issues in ways that get people invested?

Students will explore this question as part of a 1.5 day interactive workshop led by education staff from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and professional journalists Tom Hundley and Marissa Evans who have used diverse media to report on underreported global health issues for the world’s leading publications.

Now open to graduate students: this event is free and aimed at students from secondary 5 (grade 11) and up.
Food will provided for both sessions.

The Prognosis is looking for submissions

The Prognosis, McGill's student journal of global health, is looking for submissions for its 2018-2019 edition. The journal features research and articles on topics at the intersection of social, biomedical, environmental, global, and local perspectives on health. We encourage students from all departments to provide submissions!

The McGill Summer Program in Social and Cultural Psychiatry is back for its 25th year!

Registration for the McGill Summer Program in Social and Transcultural Psychiatry is now open. Since 1995, the program has provided conceptual background for research and clinical work in social and cultural psychiatry to students, trainees, researchers and professionals in the field.
The summer program forms part of the training activities of the Montreal WHO Collaborating Centre and is endorsed by the Canadian Academy of Psychiatric Epidemiology.

Summer Opportunities for students at IDRC

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is recruiting summer students for full-time summer work in  2019! 

You are encouraged to apply, if you:

  • are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or hold a student visa with a work permit
  • are enrolled in and pursuing full-time post-secondary studies following your employment with us
  • can provide an official transcript, if selected for interview

All student positions are full-time (37.5 hours per week) and four months in duration.

Global Health Equity Research Fellowship

The Department of Global Health and Social Medicine is seeking a post-doctoral fellow for the two-year Global Health Equity (GHE) Research Fellowship.* The Fellow will join the Harvard Medical School Global Health Research Core, directed by Professor Megan Murray, and will be based at a Partners In Health-supported site in Rwanda joining a multidisciplinary team of practitioners, program managers, policy makers, and researchers. During the fellowship, the fellow will conduct high quality research on health needs and program implementation and support a broader research capacity building program and the mentoring of junior researchers in research methods and results dissemination.
