Stolen car driven at CSP police officers

A stolen car was driven at Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership police officers when it was stopped in North Weald.

Officers from the Community Safety Team were alerted to the car which was "of interest" to Essex Police and attempted to stop it in High Road.

Police said the vehicle initially stopped when requested but then tried to ram into the police vehicle as the officers got out, narrowly avoiding a collision.

Neither officer was injured and further attempts were made to stop the vehicle "but due to the manner in which it was being driven the subsequent pursuit was discontinued", police said.

A number of officers from various teams across the district were alerted and the vehicle was found abandoned nearby.

The vehicle had been stolen from another part of the county and was displaying cloned number plates, a common tactic used by criminals.

Sgt Neil Ross, from the Community Safety Team said: "The criminals in the stolen vehicle deliberately drove towards my officers and drove dangerously putting the public at risk.
"Fortunately no injuries were sustained by the officers.

"The offenders are still outstanding but extensive enquiries are being carried out to identify them and bring them to justice.

"If anyone has any information please call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously."
