December Newsletter

Dear Members,
How fast this year has gone by! As we close off the year and as I hand over to the next leadership team, I would like to thank all members for your continued participation and support of our chapter - including the administrative officers and board members for holding it all together and volunteering your time to serve. For all other members, thank you for your engagement and participation in chapter activities throughout the year. I especially want to thank you for choosing to be a part of our Lone Star Technical Communication community.

As I reflect on the past year and all the new friends I made, the opportunities to evolve my learning, and the connections made with many influencers in our industry, what I know for sure is that the people who work in this industry are very special – no, everyone cannot write – certainly not like technical communicators. Your skill set goes beyond technical writing and extends into other areas where businesses are starving for talent like yours to perform research, analyze projects from big picture to details, provide structure and organization, and simplify concepts. Take off the lid and give yourself permission to pursue and experience the full dimension of building the ecosystem for sustainable content and writing content at any level – especially as it evolves with technology and business.

Our chapter rests on the shoulders of giants who served long before now. At the December 11th holiday event, we honored the memory of Binion Amerson (1936-2017). Binion was a very special leader and our chapter was blessed to have him. See the full memorial page here. We also voted for the next leadership team of 2019. I want to welcome our new 2019 administrative officers Lacey Corbin (President) and Esther Asham (Vice President) with supporting cast Beth Allphin (Treasurer) and Jennifer Schledorn (Secretary).  As Immediate Past-President, although I am excited for the progress we’ve made as a chapter in 2018, I can’t wait to see what the new team will do in 2019. I look forward to working closely with them.

It is with a full heart of gratitude that I say thank you again for the opportunity to serve as chapter President in 2018. It has been a pleasure serving you in this capacity.

Until next time, Happy Holidays and many wishes for a prosperous New Year!

Best Regards,

NTLSC President - 2018
Agnes Mends Crentsil

Remembering Binion Amerson

Binion Amerson
1936-2017

The North Texas Lone Star Chapter (NTLSC) BALA Award was named after Binion Amerson. BALA simply means Binion Amerson Leadership Award. We found out this year that Binion passed away in September, 2017. Binion was very instrumental in growing and sustaining the NTLSC. In past years, he was also a strong advocate for bringing the STC conference to Dallas. We honored Binion’s memory at our holiday event on December 11th, 2018 by remembering his service not only to our local STC chapter, but also to STC National. You can find more details on the BALA Award and read the memorial page on our website. On behalf of the chapter, thank you, Binion Amerson. We honor your memory, devotion, and long-time service to STC.

Rest in Peace.

2019 NTLSC Officers

President - Lacey Corbin
Vice President - Esther Asham
Treasurer - Beth Allphin
Secretary - Jennifer Schledorn
