We're thrilled to host Kathleen Cotter of Blooomy Rind during our regular Saturday tasting hours for a wine & cheese pairing.

Kathleen is bringing three cheeses to the table:

a soft French cow's milk rich in butterfat with a thin, pillowy white rind, made all the more decadent with a thin line of shaved black truffle through the center;

a sweet & nutty Pecorino from Wisconsin with lots of crystals produced from pasteurized sheep's milk, aged for 3-5 years;

and a gem from Wisconsin that only comes around in the fall when the milk is naturally at its richest, aged by wrapping the wheel in spruce bark  - it's velvety and tastes of smoked, cured meats.

We're popping a bottle of bubbly and a bottle of red to help demonstrate why the age-old pairing has not fallen to the stale scraps of cliché.

Kathleen's cheese will be for sale at the shop on Saturday and Saturday only. Soak up some wine, cheese & knowledge. Then go out and impress someone!

As wine people we often talk about food and the way food tastes - especially cheese. Like wine, cheese can be soft & approachable, acidic & mouthwatering, intense & demanding. Each style requires a thoughtful companion to bring out and accentuate its best qualities, help soften any harsh edges.

Finding that companion can prove quite challenging. Some pairings simply don't work - the acidic & tannic structure of the wine destroys the cheese. Or vice versa. Some pairings prove merely satisfactory, like a convenient marriage - they are there for each other, doing no harm, yet not really doing anything exciting for one another either.

And then there are the epiphanic pairings. The one's that give you that "aha" moment. Eureka! Wine & cheese really is a thing! We hope to give you that moment this afternoon, if you haven't already experienced it for yourself. And if you have, then you know you ought to stop by and re-live one of the great joys of this world.
