Building-wide News

Lost & Found:  Parents, we have a variety of student items that have been left behind.  If your student is missing their coat, lunch box, water bottles, sneakers, and/or any other clothing item, it may be in our lost and found area.  Items are currently located near the nurse’s office and outside the gym doors. Please check with your child and make sure items are retrieved by December 21st.  All items left in the lost & found after December 21st will be donated.

Seventh Grade

In Math 7 we recently finished our Integer Mind Map projects. These are displayed in the hallways and the library. Check out the post about them for all the pictures!

View our weekly update to see our plans for this week before break. This week’s update includes 3 videos. Watch the kids arriving to break our house and then the actual smashing of the house. You can also see the pre-Algebra kids doing paper cup probability experiments. We had a lot of fun with this!

During the winter months, Movie Club meets during Lunch/Recess on Thursdays and Game Club meets during Recess - both in 217. Simply sign up the day before to get on the pass. Right now we’re watching Pelé.

Eighth Grade

All students need to read for 20 minutes every day for English class and life. Side effects of daily reading might include: increased reading comprehension, vocabulary, mental stimulation, writing, imagination, and compassion for others. Scientists say that reading for just 6 minutes can also lower stress and anxiety. Please encourage your loved ones to read!!

In English class, we are writing short vignettes and reading vignettes from the book by Sandra Cisneros, The House on Mango Street.

World Languages

French I and Spanish I (Cavana) practice speaking assessments (interpersonal communication) will take place 12/10 to 12/13. Graded speaking assessments will take place between 12/17 and 12/21. All students will be provided with a comprehensive rubric and expectations in advance.

Music

Hello to all 7th and 8th grade band students!

Our winter concert is fast approaching. Here are all of the important logistical details for our performance. Please continue to work on your parts – the more comfortable you are with what you have to play, the more fun and rewarding this performance will be!

Who? All students in the 7th and 8th grade band

What? Our dress rehearsal AND winter concert

When? Our dress rehearsal will occur during periods 7 & 8 on Tuesday, December 18th and our concert is on Wednesday, December 19th at 7:00PM in the high school auditorium.

Call time? Please plan to arrive at the HS at 6:30PM. We will store our cases in the hallway leading to the band room. Once your instrument is assembled, take your seat on the stage for a quick warm-up. If you sing in the chorus, please report at the appropriate time for your dress rehearsal with Ms. Henion.

Dress? You do not need to wear “uniform clothing.” We simply ask that you wear dressy clothes that are appropriate for a performance. Ladies – dresses and skirts are OK but must hang well below the knee.

Our program, in concert order:

Joy by Frank Ticheli

The Red Balloon by Anne McGinty

The Incredibles (Main Theme) by Michael Giacchino, arr. Johnnie Vinson

We will perform Let There Be Peace On Earth from the Harmony Bridge Book (#25) alongside the HS band at the very end of the concert. Please be sure to bring your Harmony Bridge book!

Large Instruments: Tubas, Baritone Saxes, Baritone Horns. We will bring these instruments to the HS on the day of our dress rehearsal and leave them there overnight. I will help transport them back to the MS after our concert. ALL other instruments are your responsibility.

I am looking forward to a great concert! Our band will perform only as well as you want it to play so let’s bring our A GAME! I am always available for extra help with your parts… stop by the band room! And remember...

EXCELLENCE = simple tasks done beautifully

LEAD BY YOUR EXAMPLE – be the change you want to see!
