Weekend Update

Hi, everyone! Hope you are having a great weekend! I know you're excited about having only one more week of school until Winter Break!

Last Sunday was our last Church School until after the new year. Here is our morning schedule tomorrow:

  • 10:00a - worship - 3rd Sunday of Advent (Lillian is our worship reader!)
  • 11:00a - fellowship time (Fellowship Hall)
  • 11:30a-12:30p - Carol Sing (Sanctuary)
Note: following Fellowship Time, we'll join the rest of the congregation in the sanctuary for singing Christmas carols. You can sit with your families or youth can sit together as a group.

Next Friday: youth Christmas party, December 21, 7:00p-9:00p, at church. We have plenty of homemade cookies to enjoy, but we could use some savory snacks and a few main dish type items. Here's a sign-up! We have 15 youth coming and 2 adults (me plus youth alum Christina Alaniz, who is helping "chaperone" the event), so please keep that in mind when you bring food to share. If you sign up for a main dish, it's fine to make something with 8 servings - I don't expect for each person to eat a full serving of each main dish. I could also use a little help with clean-up - the more people who help, the faster it will go.

Secret Santa: everyone should have received the name of the person you are giving a gift to. If you didn't get an email letting you know who you drew, please be in touch with me immediately! I can see who everybody has and can let you know who to buy for.

Winter Break assignment: in Church School last week, I invited the youth to each pick a Psalm that speaks to them in some way. I encouraged them to discuss this with their families, especially if they need help finding a Psalm that seems relevant to their lives.

Schedule for upcoming weeks:
  • Sunday, December 23 - 4th Sunday of Advent worship followed by a special reception celebrating this year's new church members (no Church School)
  • Monday, December 24 - 7:30p Christmas Eve Festival of Lessons and Carols (youth group members Isaac Thompson and Charlie Duke sing bass in the choir, and youth group member Emmanuel Morgan will be singing a solo!) - get your tickets here (the event is free, but having tickets helps us know how many people to prepare for) - invite your friends and families!
  • Sunday, December 30 - 1st Sunday of Christmas worship (no Church School)
  • Sunday, January 6 - Epiphany Sunday worship (no Church School)
  • Tuesday, January 8 - volunteer for Vespers
  • Sunday, January 13 - following Sunday worship, youth will join adults for a special Second Hour presentation by youth group alum, Marissa Alaniz, who is volunteering for a year with our mission partner in Nicaragua, AMOS Health and Hope
  • Sunday, January 20 - our regular Sunday schedule resumes!

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

love,
Stacey

A HUGE thank you to the Ross family for giving their time to serve the homeless and hungry at Vespers this past Tuesday!!
