A special message from Dr Noel Bayley

My medical colleagues and I have important work to do in remote Timor-Leste

Help us deliver heart health help for Every Heart, Everywhere

Dear FNAME,

Two years ago, my colleagues and I took an exciting light aircraft ride to mountainous Oecusse, Timor-Leste’s isolated western enclave.

We were the first heart specialists ever to visit this district.

The volunteer medical team and I would like to return to remote areas like this in 2019. With one in 28 young people in Timor-Leste suffering from rheumatic heart disease, we know that many need our help.

But mounting these remote area missions requires aircraft, four wheel-drive vehicles, logistical specialists, pilots, drivers and specialist portable equipment.

It’s costly for a small volunteer-based charity like East Timor Hearts Fund, so FNAME, that’s why I’m hoping you can help.

We need to raise $25,000 by 24 December to mount our first remote area mission of 2019 in February.

We want to deliver on our goal of providing heart screening for more than 300 people from remote areas next year. In these areas we can also deliver education and preventative health programs and provide follow up care for those who need it.

There is only one week to go.
Can you
help us raise $25,000 by 24 December?

A kind supporter has offered to match all donations made before
midnight on 24 December.
So if you contribute before Christmas Eve,
you can
double the value of your donation at no extra cost to you.
Thank you in advance for helping my colleagues and I heart health help for Every Heart, Everywhere.

PS: I’ve just farewelled 29-year-old Roberto, after his double valve replacement surgery in Australia.
Although he was gravely ill, Roberto had to travel for two days by ferry and bus to get from his isolated and mountainous home to the capital of Dili, so my colleagues and I could diagnose him.
Roberto became a teacher at the orphanage where he was raised, to repay the kindness of the nuns who cared for him and his siblings. Now he can return to teaching.
Roberto is one of the lucky ones. But there are many more like him who need our help. I hope I can count on your donation.
