Dear FNAME,
Two years ago, my colleagues and I took an exciting light aircraft ride to mountainous Oecusse, Timor-Leste’s isolated western enclave.
We were the first heart specialists ever to visit this district.
The volunteer medical team and I would like to return to remote areas like this in 2019. With one in 28 young people in Timor-Leste suffering from rheumatic heart disease, we know that many need our help.
But mounting these remote area missions requires aircraft, four wheel-drive vehicles, logistical specialists, pilots, drivers and specialist portable equipment.
It’s costly for a small volunteer-based charity like East Timor Hearts Fund, so FNAME, that’s why I’m hoping you can help.
We need to raise $25,000 by 24 December to mount our first remote area mission of 2019 in February.
We want to deliver on our goal of providing heart screening for more than 300 people from remote areas next year. In these areas we can also deliver education and preventative health programs and provide follow up care for those who need it.
