Christmas child,
You stand at our stable door,
bearing the unwrapped gift
of terrible, unrelenting love.
You will us to be born
again, again and again.
~ Jim Hughes, A Work in Progress
My best friend reminded me recently that Christmas is not a day, but a state of being. It is a state of opening wide the door to the stable, to our homes, to our hearts, and to let God be born for us there. With wonder and with awe it is allowing ourselves to be surprised as God enters in and chooses to be born for us in unexpected and unsettling places. It is again, again, and again received, the unwrapped gift of terrible unrelenting love, and in receiving again, again and again, allowing it to change us to look more like love.
Love to you all! Merry Christmas!
