December 2018 Newsletter

We would like to wish all our customers, partners, and readers a very Merry Christmas, and a healthy and happy New Year!

2018 has been a great year for GGFit, with more member data analysis and speaking appearances than ever before. We've been able to prove what is working for a big variety of clubs, enabling them to better engage their members.

We're really excited to be working with some even larger organisations in 2019, affecting all of their members' health and fitness, and getting them to stick around longer.

Read on for 10 end-of-year retention tips, the why, how and what of customer feedback from MyCustomerLens, and an article from the archive about doubling your joining fees in January.

End-of-Year Retention Tips

December is the busiest time of the year for us at GGFit, helping clients to get ready for the big push in January. You don't just need to hit your sales targets, but also to make sure that all your new members are going to stick around.
  • Be clear about your new member journey...
    Keep it simple, and get as many members involved as possible.
  • Sell your journey to the new member...
    If you sell it to them, you have to deliver it!
  • Send new member welcome messages...
    Say thank you for joining, and measure delivery/open rates.
  • Hold taster or fresher classes for new members...
    GroupX can be intimidating, but it's a great way to engage with new members.
  • Run a new member challenge;
    visits, classes, journey milestones, etc
Don't forget your existing members at this busy time; clubs that have amazing joining offers and focus exclusively on new members are at risk of losing existing members to the competition.
  • Review existing member exercise programmes in December, ahead of the rush.
  • Offer refresher sessions or quick reviews to existing members who are returning from absence (treat them like new members).
  • Give them the same (or better) offers on PT bookings, or other upgrades.
  • Explain that you're running taster GroupX classes to keep popular classes available to loyal members.
  • Run a loyal member challenge;
    calorie counter, 5% club, exercise outside the club

Double January Joining Fees

An article from the GGFit blog archives...

January OfferJanuary rolls round again, and the gym campaigns start with banners, flyers, emails, and text messages. The airwaves are buzzing with the same old hackneyed offers of no join fee, join for ÂŁ1, half price first month, first month free, all during the busiest month of the year. But could you make more money in the short and long term by breaking the mould and charging more?

Any other industry would double the joining/start-up fee in their busiest month, check out the handy “when’s school half-term” service provided by a well-known family holiday provider below. They know when people want to visit, and they make the most of it.  Click here to read the full article

Whilst it's nice to send and receive Christmas Cards, it's not the best for the environment. So we have made a donation to one of our favourite charities, Macmillan Cancer Support, in lieu of sending cards again this year.
