re:surface, 3-person exhibition at Zygote Press curated by Nicole Schneider.

Enough playing around in the beautiful Northern California sun, time to get back to the studio.

Long time friend, Nicole Schneider, curated an exhibit for Zygote Press including NicoleGrace Summanen, and me. I'm looking forward to seeing our work together. We definitely have similar outlooks that end up visually different. It'll be a mix of 2D and 3D with a bit somewhere in the middle.

Join us at the opening reception on January 18, 2019, 6-8pm.
I'd really love to see you to say hello and Happy New Year.
We'll even be talking for a few minutes at 6:30pm.

Happy New Year!
I've never been much of a New Year's resolution person. This year, however, I'm more aware of 12 months passing. Hear Her Sports, my female athlete podcast, starts its third year, so I'm working on some new content and collaborations. Matt Stevens of Pure Physio has been guiding my knee physical therapy. He just moved me up to strength training last month so I've set a long-term, big goal for 2019. (Read a bit more about that here, under "Speaking of Getting Back".) And after re:surface, I have no exhibits planned, so am thinking about what's next with fun collaborators and all by myself, hermit-like.
Plus, I'm excited about the diversity in our new Congress.

The surface of an object is more than "a mere geometric solid," but is "filled with, spread over by, or suffused with perceivable qualities such as color and warmth.
-- Panayot Butchvarov

When one thinks about the concept of surface, one might think about something as being superficial, or limited to what is perceivable on the surface of an object. But the word surface can be interpreted in a multitude of ways: To provide something with a surface. To apply a surface to something. To rise to the surface. To come out of hiding. For information or facts to become known. To make information or facts known. To appear or to be found. The word surface also implies that there is something beneath or contained by the surface itself. The three artists in this exhibition approach surface in varied and unique ways.
