Can you believe, Christmas is less than a week away!? This year has certainly flown by. As we approach the festive season, I would like to wish you and your family a safe and Merry Christmas and all the best for the year ahead.

If you’re traveling to visit family and friends over the holiday period or just out and about, please be safe on our roads. Adhere to the speed limits, don’t drink or text and drive, and be considerate to other road users.

It has been a very busy year and a privilege representing the people of the Burleigh electorate and I look forward to continuing on with the job in 2019.

Now onto a snapshot of what’s been happening locally …
Local school awards & graduation events

I had the pleasure of attending almost all award and graduation celebration events at our local schools for 2018 – A great time of year when schools are recognising the achievements of their students.

It was a privilege to participate and to sponsor some of the awards handed out.  To all of the award recipients, student graduates and parents, I congratulate you on a wonderful year and send my best wishes for your future journey.

Baby Give Back Christmas Appeal

To help families in need over the festive season, I once again ran my annual Christmas gift drive. Along with many generous locals, I was able to donate boxes of new toys, toiletries, books, backpacks, nappies & wipes to Burleigh charity, Baby Give Back.

A huge thank you to everyone that supported the appeal and to the amazing efforts of Baby Give Back, who have worked tirelessly to distribute presents to families, who might otherwise go without this Christmas.

To keep up to date with the great work they do, check out the Baby Give Back Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/babygiveback/

M1 Project Update

Pacific Motorway (M1) Upgrade Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes

Traffic conditions on the M1 between Varsity Lakes (Exit 84) and Robina (Exit 82), changed to allow for the reconstruction of a new and longer on ramp at Varsity Lakes (Exit 84) and an extended off ramp at Robina (Exit 82). As a result, the northbound M1 entry and exit ramps for the Reedy Creek North Caltex/McDonald’s site permanently closed in November and access to the site from the motorway is from Reedy Creek (Exit 85) via Old Coach Road and Gemvale Road.

Motorists wanting to re-join the motorway re-enter at Robina (Exit 82) on-ramp. Directional signage from the motorway is in place.

Upcoming activities and night works

Night works will continue from Sunday 16 December to Thursday 20 December between 8pm and 6am with road surfacing works between Robina (Exit 82) and Varsity Lakes (Exit 84).

From 5am on Wednesday 19 December and Thursday 20 December, concrete will be poured for the new retaining wall at Robina (Exit 82) southbound on-ramp, weather permitting. Additional noise mitigation strategies will be in place during these times. Day work activities will continue with earthworks along the whole alignment, drainage, concrete works and working on Stapley Drive Bridge.

Further information - including a fact sheet, videos, frequently asked questions and the Project Plan - is available on the project website https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Projects/Name/P/Pacific-Motorway-M1-upgrade-Mudgeeraba-to-Varsity-Lakes

Make sure you are following my Facebook page, where I am posting regular updates on the construction activities.
Christmas by The Sea

A huge crowd of locals turned out to Palm Beach Parklands for Christmas by The Sea last night!  Well done to the organisers, very proud to be a sponsor for this fantastic community event.
Burleigh Heads Tennis Club

Earlier this month I attended the official opening of Burleigh Heads Tennis Club's fantastic new Fifth Court and Hot Shots Court. It was great to catch-up with the members and also cut the ribbon on their Fifth Court.

A big congratulations to the committee and in particular President Ron Campbell!
