NEWSLETTER - November 2018

Hi All,

We are definitely on the countdown to Christmas now and for many, a few days rest and relaxation!

Take some time to read the information in this newsletter. In order to stay current with how IWF Masters and AWF are running their events we have had to change many of the procedures we set up a couple of months ago. Unfortunately the timing of this was out of control with our 2018 Masters Nationals and the last December competitions already closed for entries.

Please be patient with the changes, let the Masters Committee know if you have any queries and let's all move forward into 2019 looking forward to the challenge of being a Masters athlete in an increasingly competitive environment.

2018 NZ NATIONALS MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS REVIEW

Hosted by Upper Hutt Weightlifting Club

We can't have a December Newsletter without first recognising the superb competition that Chris & Yvonne Gibbs of Upper Hutt Weightlifting put on with the assistance of Paule Poulin, Matt Dyson and Karl Duncan from 41Degrees.

From the feedback everyone enjoyed the comp, over 150 NZ records were set (across old and new bodyweights) and it was great to have such a supportive environment to compete at. From a competition set up perspective, Paule had it all organised! and as always, a big thank you to all the TOs who volunteered their time to ensure that the competition was held to the highest  standards.

NEW ZEALAND MASTERS GAMES - FEBRUARY 2019

For the first time in its 30th year history, the NZ Masters Games that will be held in Whangnaui this year will have a olympic weightlifting competition.

The weightlifting event will be held at CrossFit Whanganui on Sunday 3rd February.
Entries are open and will close on Sunday 25th January 2019 at 1:00PM.

This event will be run under the NEW bodyweights. As athletes have already entered (under the OLD bodyweights)  the entry form will remain the same and Matt will contact all entered athletes to move you into the new bodyweight categories.

As with all competitions, they can only happen with the assistance of volunteers. If you are competing or supporting or want to spend the weekend in Whanganui please volunteer your time. It will be definitely be appreciated!

2019 International Competitions
EOI DOCUMENT

If you want to enter an International Event in 2019 - have you completed the online EOI?

This is COMPULSORY for all athletes.  We need to know who is intending to enter, compete, travel etc. It enables the Masters Committee to communicate directly to those who have submitted an EOI about the event.

It takes less time to complete it than it does to order a coffee!!!

2019 INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

We have had to change the procedure we published a couple of months ago for entering 2019 international competitions. (Both IWF MASTERS and AWF advised or changed their entry systems subsequent to our new procedures and after entries had closed for all our December events - including 2018 Masters Nationals).

Our procedures will ensure that athletes who enter the events have qualified according to that event's qualifying criteria and differing registration procedures.
Make sure you read the :
  • 2019 Masters Qualification Policy for International Events UPDATED
  • 2019 Montreal Masters World Championships Registration Procedure and Q&A documents
  • 2019 Oceania, Commonwealth Masters Championships & Pacific Rim Tournament Registration Document
All documents are on the OWNZ website on the High Performance page under the heading Masters High Performance Documentation

DRUG FREE SPORT NZ

Masters athletes are not required to register with ADAMS.

However as OWNZ members, all masters athletes can be still be tested at any time by DFSNZ and in particular at any OWNZ sanctioned event.

It is an OWNZ requirement that ALL members complete the DFSNZ e-Learning module level 1. If you haven't already done this, click on the DFSNZ logo below, create an account and work through the module. It will take about an hour, and you can stop at any time, save your progress and go back to it.

If you compete internationally in 2019 it is COMPULSORY for all OWNZ athletes to have completed both level 1 AND level 2 before you depart.

PLEASE NOTE:
- It is each athlete's responsibility to educate themselves on Prohibited Substances and the risks of taking any supplements.
- 2019 International events will have a heavier drug testing presence than in previous years.
- All OWNZ registered athletes can be tested at any OWNZ sanctioned
event.

The 2019 Prohibited Substances List can be found on the OWNZ website.

Please make sure that your health care professional is aware that you are a weightlifter and subject to the sport's Anti-Doping Rules. If you require medication, and are tested whilst representing NZ internationally you will be permitted to submit a retrospective TUE. We will give you more info on this as we get closer to events next year.
