Blizzard of Books
Winter Reading Program

All ages can have fun and earn prizes with our Winter Reading Program, "Blizzard of Books."

Beginning December 21, stop by the library to get started.

By reading books and earning prizes, children in grades K-6 will get to decorate a snowflake to add to our big window in the Children's Department.

Teens in grades 7 - 12 can pick up their snowflake form and will earn a prize after reading just three books.

Adults will receive a prize ticket for each book that they read and will be entered in the grand prize drawing for an Amazon gift card.  There will also be random weekly drawings for the adults to win a free Dairy Queen Blizzard.

The program continues through February 22.

Cookbook Club

Our Cookbook Club will help you kick-start a popular New Year’s resolution – to lose a few pounds and get healthy.

The Trim Healthy Mamas have created a cookbook that includes over 300 family-friendly recipes.  Not only are the recipes in “Trim Healthy Table” delicious, they’re also designed to help you trim down and feel better.

The two sisters and best-selling authors, Serene Allison and Pearl Barrett, have 18 children between them.  They definitely know how to make the best use of their time while still creating meals that everyone will enjoy, even the fussiest eaters.  The cookbook includes many one-pot dishes, casseroles, and soups.

Check out your copy of the cookbook and gather your family to eat up while trimming down.  Prepare a dish to share and bring it to the Club’s meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019.  For more information, contact the library at 330-683-1065.

Teen Movie Night

Teen Movie will feature the Blockbuster movie that was based on a book.

The book was published in 2011 and turned into movie in 2018.  It takes place in 2045, where people regularly seek entertainment

in the virtual reality entertainment universe OASIS, co-created by James Halliday and Ogden Morrow.

After Halliday's death, his avatar announces a game.  The winner of the game will own OASIS.

The contestants must be the first to find the Golden Easter egg locked behind a gate requiring three keys.

We will have a popcorn bar, where you can create your own mix to enjoy while watching the quest for OASIS!

This event is for teen in grades 7 - 12.

Brick Builder

Tuesday, January 15, 22 & 29 at 4 p.m.

Kids aged 8-12 are invited to bring a friend and challenge each other to see what new things can be built.  We’ll provide the LEGOs, you provide the imagination.  Registration is required as space is limited.

Contact the library at 330-683-1065 to register or for more information.

Book Club

Our Book Club will start the year by reading “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas.

In Thomas’ debut novel, 16-year-old Starr Carter witnesses the shooting of her best friend by a police officer.

What really happened that night?  Starr is the only witness.  What she does, or doesn’t, say can change both her life and her community.

Books are available for checkout at our circulation desk in a variety of formats.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15 for discussion.  New members and occasional drop-ins are always welcome to the group.

Game Night

We are hosting our first open-house tabletop game event of the year on January 17th.

Gather your friends, family and your favorite board/card game, then head over to enjoy an evening of entertainment and fun.

We will be featuring a spotlight game—Codenames.  This is a team versus team word-game.

National Puzzle Day

All muscles need exercise and your brain is a muscle.  Exercise your brain by working on a jigsaw puzzle, a Sudoku, a word search, or a crossword puzzle.

Studies have shown that working puzzles improves memory, cognitive function, and problem-solving skills.

Stop by the library on National Puzzle Day and put your mind to work at our puzzle table.

See a jigsaw puzzle you like?  Feel free to take it home with you.

Have you done all the jigsaw puzzles you have?
