Dallas ISD Students Inspired by Michelle Obama I am Becoming Book and Tour

As part of Michelle Obama's "Reach Higher" mission, her foundation awarded TxCAN 100 tickets for local Dallas high school students to attend her I Am Becoming book tour at the American Airlines Center on Dec. 17th in hopes they'd “see themselves and their future potential in her story and reach higher.” TxCAN partnered with Dallas ISD's Office of Extended Learning Opportunities to bring students to the tour and with Half Price Books to donate new books to each student. More details about Mrs. Obama’s visit to Dallas can be found on the Dallas ISD hub.

House Bill 535

Texas House of Representative Victoria Neave has proposed the HB 535, which would require the completion of a financial aid application (FAFSA or if applicable TASFA) to graduate from Texas public high schools. If approved, the new rule would impact 2021 graduating class (2020-2021 school year). This requirement would be waived if a parent/guardian or a student 18 years or older signs a form. FAFSA Priority Deadline: January 15

As a reminder, the new priority FAFSA deadline for Texas public colleges and universities is January 15, 2019. It is recommended that applicants complete and submit this application and any other required documentation to the college financial aid office prior to the state priority deadline date.
