PHE Annual Research and Science Conference: call for further abstracts
PHE is hosting its Annual Research and Science Conference on 9th -10th April at the University of Manchester. The call for late breakers is open and PHE would welcome abstracts in health improvement including sexual health, CVD prevention, workplace health, public mental health and healthy places. Deadline 4th February. More information here. 

Building links with NIHR School of Primary Care Research 
The three NIHR Schools are keen to work together on common areas of research interest. The NIHR School for Primary Care (SPCR) has  a number of working groups including the SPCR Allergy, mental health and lifestyle medicine groups who will be meeting in February and March. If you are interested in attending these meetings please contact the named contact on the following webpage.   


NIHR Blog: Professor Chris Whitty
In this blog, NIHR lead and Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), Professor Chris Whitty, explains how the NIHR Academy will support research capacity development now and in the future. More information here. 


Nuffield Research Placement Scheme: call for supervisors
The Nuffield Foundation is looking for supervisors to provide a four-week research experience to a Year 12 school student during the summer. More information here. 

Placement opportunities for MSc Health Psychology students
UCL is keen to provide students with placements to gain work experience in relevant healthcare, clinical or academic settings. The aim is to give a sense of the likely tasks and work environment that a recent MSc graduate would encounter in clinical, academic or related settings. The unpaid placements will take place from April for a minimum duration of 35 hours.  If you have a potential placement opportunity please contact Rosemary Koper. 

BNF Drummond Early Career Scientist Award 2019: open for applications 

The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) Drummond Early Career Scientist Award recognises early career nutrition scientists who show great potential to be future leaders in the field. The award is open to current MSc and PhD students studying human nutrition or a related field, as well as those within three years of graduation from an MSc or PhD degree in human nutrition or a related field. The deadline is February 1st. Funding Opportunities
NIHR Global Health Call
Building on the NIHR’s Global Health Research portfolio, NIHR has launched the second call of its new global health funding scheme, NIHR Research and Innovation for Global Health Transformation (RIGHT). It aims to provide targeted investment in mental health research in ODA-eligible countries, through supporting applied research on the development and evaluation of interventions to improve outcomes for those affected by mental health issues. Deadline for stage 1 applications 27th March. More information here.

NIHR Academy webinar: Post doctoral funding opportunities for no-medical clinicians
On 28th January between 2-3pm the NIHR Academy will hold a webinar on Post Doctoral funding opportunities for non-medical clinicians: What's new, what’s changed and how to be successful. More information here. 


NIHR PPI course launched
NIHR has launched a new online interactive course for new and experienced reviewers of health and social care research. Researchers may also find this tool useful to improve PPI. More information here

Beveridge's five giants revisited from a human rights perspective: registration open
The Institute of Health & Society and the Law School at Newcastle University are hosting a free conference on health inequalities and human rights on 25th April 2019. The conference aims to explore three social rights issues at the core of Beveridge's five giants in the context of today's society including food, housing and long term care. The conference is aimed at academics, public health professionals, policy makers and human rights practitioners.  More information here.
