Notes from Mr. Branton:
Happy New Year Westwood…We hope you enjoyed a relaxing, fun filled break the past few weeks. As we move into January 2019, we continue to strive for excellence from our students each day. At the same time, students need time to reflect on goals set at the beginning of the year with academic and social-emotional goals established during our goal setting time with parents. We will review goals with students and set new benchmarks to measure their progress on their year long goals for growth. Please continue to have the conversations with your student at home on how they can continue to show their gift of greatness each day and how they plan on reaching their goals for the year.
The new point in the year is a great time to revisit rules and expectations in the building also. Our staff will be working with students in the next few weeks on re-teaching skills that are related to our PBIS framework that provides our students with a common understanding and a set of expectations building wide in all areas of the building.
We look forward to a wonderful new year at Westwood with students reaching their individual goals through our continued partnership.
Parent Drop Off- Student Arrival
Over the past few weeks it has come to my attention that we have a few safety concerns in the parking lot in the morning. I have been out there for the past few weeks to watch traffic and identify any safety concerns. Please see the attached map regarding the process for parent drop off in the morning during student arrival. Couple of quick reminders to keep all students and adults safe:
- Vehicles either wait in the drop off lane or park in a spot in the lot. Vehicles cannot drop off students from middle lane and have students run across traffic.
- Vehicles cannot enter from back of line and merge into front space in line near garbage dumpster. Vehicles will either wait in line or you must park your vehicle.
- Students should be ready to get out of vehicles near door 5 and then walk along the sidewalk to enter into door 6. If students are getting out of vehicles earlier then we can move the traffic quicker through the line.
- Students need to be ready to exit out the vehicle when they arrive in the parking lot.
Thank you for honoring this procedure at Westwood. It will keep all students safe during morning arrival.
For the safety of our students:
** NO ONE should ever park or leave a vehicle in the drop off and driving lanes. Please park in a space if you plan to leave your vehicle.
** NO vehicles should stop in the crosswalks. As always, drives must yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks.
** Adults picking up children at the end of the school day are asked to only enter through Door #6 to pick up your child from the cafeteria.
