This past December, the property sale and transfer of deed for the "Stephen Drew Heritage House" at 51 Landing Road was completed. The House will be open to the public for a sneak peak following our annual row and potluck brunch on Sunday, January 6th.
Bring your dishes early if you can; the Landing will be abuzz by 10:15 AM or so, and we hope to be in the water by 11 (high tide is 11:19 AM). The weather is predicted to be lovely, so bring your water craft, family and friends. We also have a few kayaks and canoes to lend. If you can’t, or would rather not get out on the water, you're welcome to hang by the wood stove and enjoy until we return around Noon. Remember to wear water shoes/boots, and maybe do a few exercises between now and then – and don’t forget the life vests!
We will be opening the Heritage House at #51 starting around 1:00 PM.
Please come and take a look at this treasure – the oldest building of the original boatyard. Stephen Drew built the house likely before 1780, just about the time his uncles were building the Brig Independence, the first commissioned ship of the Continental Navy on these Jones River shores.
Thank you all for your help in accomplishing this foundational step toward building a center of credible science study and innovative solutions where the river meets the sea. We will be doing a lot of fundraising, planning and renovations this year to make the House a cornerstone in our strategy for helping our community and region prepare for, monitor and address the impacts of climate change.
Please let us know how you would like to be involved!
