Give us a call and we'll help you determine if your utility is solar friendly and if solar is a good investment for you.

KCC approved the Kansas KCP&L Rate Case, KCP&L Residential Customers With Solar Are Now Subject to a DG Rate Structure.

The KCC approved the settlement agreement for KCP&L in Kansas on December 13, 2018. The agreement says Kansas residential customers will see a decrease to electrical rates. However, customers wanting to install solar or a distributed generation energy system are subject to a 3 part rate moving forward.
  1. Summer and Winter demand charges will be $9.00/kW and $3.00/kW, respectively
  2. Customer charge will be $14.25
  3. The energy charge is $0.07688 per kWh
  4. Demand meaasurement shall be a 60-minute intervals
  5. The demand billing period shall be the daily hours of 2:00pm through 7:00pm Central Time, except for weekends, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day
If you are affected by the distributed generation (DG) rate: Please pay attention to when various electrical appliances are running between the hours of 2:00-7:00 PM. Try to space appliances and ac/electric heat out to reduce the demand peak load. For example, run your dryer and dishwasher at night after 7:00. Make sure your AC does not turn on while cooking dinner on an electric stove. Put a timer on your electric hot water heater, so it does not run during those hours, etc.

In order to minimize the possible impact of KCPL demand charges in Kansas, we encourage owners of self-generated energy systems to take a look at efficiencies and demand management technologies to help reduce power consumption during peak hours. For more information, please contact us

Utility rate structure charges have been disputed and reversed in other states, like Nevada. Contact your legislative officials to advocate for the right for energy freedom and to support the renewable energy industry in Kansas.  Connect with The Clean Energy Business Council or The Climate and Energy Project to get involved.

What is NABCEP?

The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) offers certifications that are widely recognized as the "gold standard" for renewable energy professionals. Certification is achieved when individuals who have specialized solar training and on-the-job experience pass a very rigorous exam.
When you hire a NABCEP certified professional, you can be confident that you are getting the job done by solar professionals with the "know-how" that you need. They are part of a select group of people who have distinguished themselves by being awarded NABCEP certified credentials.

Choosing the right people, to select, manage and install a solar every system on your home or business plays a big part in the overall success of the project. An ever-growing number of consumers, incentive programs, employers, insurers and bid documents are insisting on NABCEP certification for their project. They recognize the value and peace of mind that comes with hiring individuals with this professional accomplishment.

Good Energy Solutions is proud to have 8 NABCEP Certified Professionals on staff. Kevin Good, Michael Lee, Bryan Cranston, David Vera, Justin Browning, Jordan George, Andrew Rondon, and Michael Schumann. Go Solar in confidence as a NABCEP Certified Professional works on your project every step of the way. From sale, to design, to installation, to interconnection, to inspection.
Congratulations to Michael Schumann, VP/Residential Solar Consultant. Mike received his NABCEP Certified PV Technical Sales Professional™ Certification in November of 2018.
