Welcome to our winter market!  Despite popular belief, you CAN grow fresh and local in the winter.  Using low heat in our greenhouses, we can bring you fresh greens throughout the winter months. Root vegetables have already been dug, cleaned and stored, so you can find multiple choices of FRESH items for your soups, stews, and salad side dishes this winter.  With the pastured beef, pork and poultry, wildcaught Alaskan fish, and fresh eggs you can find at the market, you can dine well all winter.  And, by visiting the market regularly, you will be the first one to find each new vegetable or fruit that ripens.
This winter will be a challenging one for us.  Two sets of circumstances, happening coincidentally, will bring some changes to the market.  Miguel leaves for Mexico Monday, January 7, at 6am.  He needs to complete the final three steps to legalizing his status.  He must pass a medical exam, and have interviews with both the Mexican and American consuls.  However, his appointment times have still not been set, so he will have to wait out the remainder of his time on the other side of the border.  He will be met by a person who will provide housing and transportation for him during this difficult time.  His wife and three young children will remain here.  We have been given estimates of a waiting period between two weeks and two months for these appointments.  If you believe in the power of prayer, we ask that you pray for him and his family during this time.  There are inherent dangers in Cuidad Juarez, and his financial resources are not unlimited.
The second situation involves me.  As some of you already know, I have been struggling with knee problems all season.  On January 15, I will be having a total knee replacement of my right knee.  I tried everything to avoid this, but ran out of options.  Our sons will be covering the Saturday market days.  You will still be able to purchase all of Mayfair Farm's products, except baked goods.  Baked goods will be unavailable until I am back on my feet, steady, walking well, and working again.  The Tuesday market will be open with The Haven and Rooster Dirt Farm.  I will have to miss it until cleared by the doctor to return.  Obviously, there is much that is unknown in these situations we are facing this winter.  However, Gene and I will start working on seed orders next week.  As long as we plant seeds, you know we are planning for the future.  It just might take us a little longer to get there this year.
The Freight Station Farmers Market is open Tuesdays, and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Vendors vary depending on the day.
Thanks for supporting our market!
