Live Well Wakefield Small Grants Fund - Round 4 schemes funded

West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner's budget consultation 2019/20
 Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, has launched the budget consultation for 2019/20, and would like to hear your views on how the money should be raised from April 2019 onwards. To share your views, please complete this short survey. The deadline is 5pm on 15 January 2019.
Castleford Heritage Trust awarded funding to expand events and activities programme
Castleford Heritage Trust (CHT) has been awarded a total of £18,000 to extend its programme of events and activities in the community.
 The sum, which is made up of £10,000 from National Lottery Awards for All and £8,000 from the Live Well Wakefield Small Grants Fund, will be used to extend the term of its current Community Involvement Manager, and to employ an additional Project Support Officer. The Trust plans to introduce new regular events and activities at its Queen's Mill base and out in the community, with the aim of bringing people together, improving wellbeing, creating new social opportunities, increasing awareness of the town's history and expanding upon its education and outreach work. Shaw Trust Partnership Opportunity: National Citizens Service
 Shaw Trust is a national charity helping to transform the lives of young people and adults. Shaw Trust is bidding for the National Citizens Service which is an experience designed to make young people feel challenged and changed, engaged and empowered. The Trust wishes to engage with local youth organisations who can help them deliver this programme. For more information, please see the flyer (pdf).
The Charity Digital Code of Practice
 The Charity Digital Code of Practice aims to help charities increase impact, develop skills and improve sustainability. The Code aims to support charities of all sizes, budgets or causes in progressing with digital, offering a consistent framework for the sector to work towards. It is not a regulatory requirement, so it focuses on the principles and best practice in digital. To read more about the code, please visit the Charity Digital Code website.
Have your say on the Local Plan for Wakefield
 Public consultation on Wakefield Council's Initial Draft Plan takes place from Thursday 10 January until 5pm on Wednesday 20 February 2019. The Local Plan will guide development and decision making on planning applications until 2036. The Plan sets out Wakefield Council’s planning policies for securing growth, investment, sustainable development and improving the environment in the district. Sites are proposed for housing and employment and more. For further details and to comment on the plan, please visit the Wakefield Council website.

People's Postcode Lottery Programmes Gathering
23 January 2019 | 9.15am - 2.30pm, Broderick Hall, Leeds City Museum, Millennium Square, Leeds, LS2 8BH
The free event will feature in-depth information about the application process to the Trusts supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery. A series of informative, expert workshops will also take place, followed by a Q&A panel including funders, for which you may suggest a question in advance.
Nova Learning and Networking - THE PERS HR Handbook
12 February 2019 | 10.00am - 12.00pm, Nova Wakefield District Limited, 11 Upper York Street, Wakefield, WF1 3LQ
This Learning and Networking session will be based on the Pay and Employment Rights Service (PERS) HR Handbook. The session will cover the three levels in the PERS HR Handbook:
- The Lawful Employer
- The Good Practice Employer
- The Strategic Employer
This session will be delivered by a PERS trainer.
Yorkshire MESMAC Networking Lunch
5 March 2019 | 12.00pm - 2.00pm, Yorkshire MESMAC, 12 Cheapside, Wakefield, WF1 2SD
Attendees are invited to bring along posters, leaflets and/or a short description/update on your service to present to the group. Once everyone has spoken, Yorkshire MESMAC will then provide a free home cooked vegetable soup and salad lunch and end with plenty of time for networking and exchanging emails. All agencies providing services across Wakefield District are welcome to attend.

There are lots of funding opportunities on the Nova website at the moment. Please see below for a selection of the funding opportunities currently available:
Energy Industry Voluntary Redress scheme
Application deadline: 19 February 2019
 Energy Saving Trust has developed an open application process for charities seeking funding from the Energy Redress Scheme. The available fund is £500,000. Bids should address the core priorities of the fund i.e:
- To support energy consumers in vulnerable situations
- The development of products and/or services, which are genuinely innovative and not currently accessible to energy consumers or certain groups of energy consumers
There are no additional funding priorities in this round. The minimum grant request is £20,000 and the maximum grant request is £500,000.
Innocent Foundation Grants
Application deadline: 22 February 2019
 Since 2004, The Innocent Foundation has been working to help the poorest families to feed themselves and adapt to a changing climate, building resilience for now and for the future. The Foundation is providing grants to help turn brave, bold ideas into real solutions that help the world's hungry.
The 2019 Greening Grey Britain fund
Application deadline: 28 February 2019
 The 2019 Greening Grey Britain applications are now open for schools, youth groups and community gardeners to apply. This year the fund would like applicants to show how their transformation project would fit in with one or more of the following themes:
- Grow for People: create a garden to help promote better health and wellbeing
- Grow for the Planet: create a garden that will help to address local environmental issues
- Grow for Wildlife: create a space for wildlife to boost local biodiversity
An informal drop in session is taking place on Thursday 24 January 10am–12pm at The Art House, Drury Lane, Wakefield, WF1 2TE for anyone who would like to hear more about the fund.
Smallwood Trust - Women First Fund
Application deadline: 5pm on 4 March 2019
 Smallwood Trust is inviting applications to be made to the Women First Fund. The fund is open to charities, social enterprises and other non-profit organisations who have projects that support the mission of enabling women to become financially resilient. Please note, Smallwood Trust is looking to fund existing projects that are evidencing good practice.
Coalfields Regeneration Trust
Application deadline: 15 March 2019
 The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the 5.5 million people living in Britain’s former mining communities. The Coalfields Community Investment Programme (England) is a £500,000 fund created to support activities that tackle some of the key challenges that still remain in coalfield communities. The fund is open to projects that deliver in the top 30% most deprived coalfield communities and that will make a positive difference in addressing the following themes:
- Skills: Growing the skills of people in order to increase their opportunities
- Employment: Developing pathways to increase the number of people in work
- Health: Supporting activities that improve the health and wellbeing of all age groups
Wakefield Warm Homes
Application deadline: The scheme ends in March 2019
 The Warm Homes Fund provides gas central heating to help people save energy and stay warm in their homes. The funding is available for a limited time and will be given to those who apply first.
St James's Place Foundation
Application deadline: There is no deadline.
 Grants are available to UK registered charities and special needs schools in the UK to support work to improve the quality of life for those people in need as a result of disability or disadvantage. The fund seeks to achieve direct, tangible results from the support given and specifically offers support to projects that provide directly for young people (under the age of 25) who suffer from physical or mental health difficulties or conditions, or a life threatening degenerative illness, or are disadvantaged. The Major Grants Programme is closed to unsolicited applications but the Small Grants Programme can be applied to for a maximum of £10,000 in any two year rolling period.

Training
Introduction to the Third Sector
6 February 2019 | 10.00am - 12.00pm, Nova Wakefield District Limited, 11 Upper York Street, Wakefield, WF1 3LQ
Come along to this free session and find out about the Third Sector in more detail. The session will also address any specific areas of interest/queries that participants may have about the sector. The training will cover:
- The theory underpinning the concept of the 'Third Sector'.
- Myths about the sector.
- Characteristics of the sector (legal structure, income, services, size and distribution).
- Statistics (local and national).
- Current burning issues (partly determined by participant input).
MHFA England Youth Two Day Course: Mental Health First Aid Training
4-5 April 2019 | 9.00am - 5.00pm, Pugneys Country Park Centre, Asdale Road, Denby Dale Road, Wakefield, WF2 7EQ
Completing the two day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider. It focuses on the issues faced by young people today, such as cyber bullying and substance misuse, and teaches how to promote protective factors and good parenting. Everyone who completes the course gets a Youth MHFA manual to refer to whenever they need it, and a certificate to say they are a Youth Mental Health First Aider.
