ANOTHER POTENTIAL SCAM FOR DRIVERS,

A local resident has just shared this one with me.  It's certainly a new one I'd not heard of before, so don't get caught!.

"An elderly friend of mine suffered a distraction burglary in Waitrose carpark just before Christmas. As she parked her car on the top floor a man tapped on her window and told her there were flames coming out of the back. She was obviously very alarmed and got out to look. She couldn’t see any immediate problem and was late for an appointment so she locked up and left. However, when she opened her handbag later she discovered her purse had gone. It was stolen from the car while she was checking the rear of the vehicle. She contacted her bank only to find that over £1000 had already been withdrawn or spent on various cards. She told me the manager at Waitrose was very helpful, as were the police. They checked all the CCTV coverage and the man showed up but obviously knew where the cameras were because he always turned his face away. All the money she had stolen is being refunded and, as she says, at least no-one was hurt, but she was very shaken by it and still is, and she wants everyone to know and to be aware of this particular scam."

GET SOWING !  - SEEDY SATURDAY !

I was  sowing my.pepper and chilli seeds earlier this week and remembered to sow a few extra ones for the library's Seedy Saturday event which this year will be on 18th May.

If you're a gardener and sowing your seeds shortly, please do sow a couple of extra pots for this year's library Sale & Swop session in May. . Gardeners enjoy trying new plants and your contribution will be very welcome
.

Start off the new year with a yoga course to help you Tune Back In.

This 10 week course will help you work towards building a harmonious relationship with your mind and body through the breath, body movement and meditation. Learn how to take basic to intermediate hatha yoga practices and use them in your daily life for a healthier relationship with yourself. You will get used to using props to assist you in postures and become more creative with movements outside of traditional yoga practice, helping to understand your body better. You will stretch, build strength and relax in every class.

Class themes:

Week 1 - slow down and stretch

Week 2 - de stress

Week 3 - build strength

Week 4 - cultivate awareness

Week 5 - trust your body

Week 6 - create space

Week 7 - feel the posture

Week 8 - finding balance

Week 9 - connecting deeper

Week 10 - being whole

Although this course will be held once a week, you can expect to work towards developing a yoga practice at home taking with you short assignments each Thursday and building from them in your own comfort.

This course is open to anyone who is new to yoga or returning yogis who would like to take their practice to the next level.

The investment is £110 if booked by January 17th for the 10 classes or £100 if you want to start from week 2 (you won’t miss much in week 1!). Please reach out to Palka to book your space or if you have any questions about this course. Spaces are limited to 8 students.

To be held every Thursday at the Positivity Centre from January 17th to March 21st from 7:00-8:15pm.

FOR DRIVERS WHO USE  BUCKS COUNCIL CAR PARKS

News from Buckinghamshire County Council

15 January 2019

New RingGo parking system to launch in Aylesbury town centre

Transport for Buckinghamshire will be trialling the RingGo pay-by-phone system in Aylesbury town centre  this week, going live on on Thursday 17 January 2019.
Motorists wishing to park on the street or in the Waterside North car park will no longer have to hunt for change following the introduction of a new system that lets you pay for parking with your mobile phone.
RingGo is a quick, easy-to-use mobile phone service that allows users to pay for parking by credit or debit card, rather than with cash at a machine. If this trial proves successful, the system will be introduced across all of the County Council parking locations.
You can use RingGo to pay for parking online, via text message or by calling a standard rate telephone number that will be displayed on signs. There is also a dedicated app for iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows devices, with full details of each payment method available at www.ringgo.co.uk

If you choose to pay for parking via RingGo, there is no need to display a ticket. Civil enforcement officers will be able to check the registration of validly-parked vehicles using a special handheld device.
Once cars are registered on RingGo, the service can remember users’ vehicle and payment information, meaning you can save time when paying for parking in future. Users can also opt in to receive text message reminders ten minutes before parking is due to run out, giving you time to return to your car or to extend your stay to the maximum period allowed in that parking place.
Five-digit RingGo codes will be displayed on the parking payment stations in each location, or can be found online. There is a charge of 20p per transaction for using the service, as well as 10p for the optional text message reminders, which can be switched off at any time.
The service has worked very successfully in other parts of the country and will make parking in Aylesbury town centre - and in the rest of Buckinghamshire, should the trial be a success - much more convenient, both for residents and for visitors.
County Council Deputy Leader and Transport Cabinet Member Mark Shaw said:
"The introduction of RingGo is a step forward in convenient parking. You can still pay with cash in the conventional way but being able to pay via your phone is a handy alternative that I am sure many people will take advantage of."

HEATHROW EXPANSION CONSULTATION

I've  just been onto the Heathrow consultation website which I mentioned recently (https://afo.heathrowconsultation.com/.) to find out exactly what was being covered and discovered that I seem to have become a "Grumpy Old Woman".
Within seconds I found myself  complaining about the sound level of the background music to the explanatory video which made it very difficult to concentrate on the proposed flight path patterns which were being explained.

I don't have a hearing problem -  (as far as I know!) - but it occurred to me how difficult it would be for the hard of hearing to engage with this consultation when they can't hear the speaker who is drowned out by the  music.   I've  sent an email to feedback@heathrowconsultation.com  asking that they either reduce the sound level of the background music or provide an option for the hard of hearing  to switch it off and I hope that anybody who either represents the disabled or who has problems hearing what is being explained will do likewise
.!

(Mind you,  I have the same objection to instrusive  background music that now seems to accompany almost every TV documentary programme these days but the BBC don't listen to my complaints either !)
NEW BUCKINGHAMSHIRE COUNCIL UNITARY AUTHORITY.

It has been announced that the new Unitary Authority which will come into operation in May 2020 will have 147 councillors, (3 per ward).  This is three times the number of councillors representing the existing District Councils.  The original proposal was that there should be 98.

I'm  wondering where they are all going to be accommodated for Council meetings and hope that the next stage in the proceedings will not be a suggestion to build an expensive new "County Hall" to accommodate everybody  along with the supporting administrative staff.
