FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HELP CRIME VICTIMS HEAL BY BECOMING A VOLUNTEER VICTIM ADVOCATE

(Tucson, Arizona) – The Victim Services Division of the Pima County Attorney’s Office is recruiting community volunteers to serve as advocates for crime victims. Victim Advocates support victims after a crime or another traumatic event has occurred, responding both to individual crime scenes, as well as large-scale incidents like the January 8, 2011, Tucson Tragedy and the October 1, 2107, Las Vegas Shooting.

For volunteers who prefer to assist victims in a courtroom setting, an interactive court advocacy training is also available. Volunteer advocates will assist victims in navigating the criminal justice system and provide support for victims at court hearings.

Victim Advocates help survivors of trauma and victimization on their road to recovery and healing by providing them with crisis intervention services, emotional support, and information about community resources.  We are currently seeking additional volunteers who can help do this valuable work within Pima County.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Victim Services Division, what it is doing to assist the residents of Pima County, and volunteer opportunities, should attend one of two information sessions:
  • Tuesday, January 29, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 pm
  • Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 pm

Both sessions will be held at the Tucson Police Department located at 1310 West Miracle Mile Road.

The Victim Services Division provides volunteers and interested community members with extensive training. The Crisis Intervention and Victimology Training, which is open to anyone in the community, will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for six weeks beginning February 19, 2019. Those interested in attending the training or volunteering must first attend one of the information sessions. After attending an information session, there will be an application and interview process for prospective volunteers.

Please call 724-5525 for more information about volunteering and to sign up for one of the information sessions.
