Registration deadline: January 16th, 2019

Students holding student (F-1/J-1) visas are required to be full-time students and maintain "full-time status" while they are in the United States.

Undergraduate students
must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters to be considered full-time students.

Graduate students must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours during the fall and spring semester to be considered full-time students. Some graduate programs may require more than 9 credit hours of enrollment to be considered full-time (e.g. Law and MBA programs).

ELI students must be enrolled in 18 clock hours per week of core classes (if you are unsure of your visa status or of how many classes you should take, please ask in the ELI office).

Health Insurance
Deadline for Insurance Waiver: January 16th, 2019

University of Alabama policy mandates that all international students are required to maintain medical insurance coverage.

If you are an F-1 or J-1 student, the University-sponsored medical insurance will be automatically charged to your student account. If this charge is not included on your registration bill, it is your responsibility to notify the UA Student Health Insurance office.
UA student Health insurance forms are available here:

https://shc.sa.ua.edu/university-sponsored-health-insurance/

If you already have medical insurance that meets or exceeds the University of Alabama Guidelines, you may request a waiver of UA insurance charges. A waiver form is available here:
https://shc.sa.ua.edu/university-sponsored-health-insurance/
The waiver form must be completed by you as well as your insurance provider and submitted to UA's Student Heath Center. Without processing a waiver, you will be automatically charged for the University-sponsored insurance policy; so, be sure to submit the waiver.
Proof of coverage must be provided EACH Semester before the last day to register or add a class (January 16th, 2019 for this spring semester).

You can find more information regarding minimum coverage, insurance for dependents, and/or insurance for graduate teaching and research assistants on our website
(https://shc.sa.ua.edu/university-sponsored-health-insurance/)
