Confirmation is an opportunity for baptismal renewal. It is fitting to run your Confirmation classes beginning on Baptism of the Lord Sunday and finishing on Easter. There are fifteen Sundays from Baptism of the Lord (January 13) to Easter (April 21), which is an excellent fit for the twelve ninety-minute sessions of Big God Big Questions.
  • Sessions 1 and 12 invite the confirmands and the congregation to consider baptismal renewal.
  • Sessions 2-11 pose the baptismal questions to the confirmands.
  • The three extra weeks could be used for a retreat, mentor/confirmand encounters, or service projects.
There are twenty-three Sundays from Baptism of the Lord to Pentecost (June 9), another appropriate day to celebrate baptismal renewal. For churches that take the twenty-four, forty-five-minute session option, consider doing the last session on a Sunday afternoon around a meal with mentors, parents, and session members that leads into the session’s review of the confirmands’ experiences.

about Big God Big Questions

"We just totally reworked our entire Confirmation schedule based on the curriculum. I taught the Bible 101 lesson last week at our first meeting, and it went really well! I love that it has journals to go with it and a parent/mentor book." —Virginia Callegary, Director of Christian Education, First Presbyterian Church of Howard County, Columbia, Maryland

"I'm a big fan of Big God Big Questions. I love the constant invitation to invite people from the congregation to join in our classes. The relationships that have been developed, and the deep conversations we have had, have been great." —Steven Andrews, pastor, Parkville Presbyterian Church, Parkville, Missouri

"Great curriculum and very easy to follow. I really like the variety of activities. Confirmands are responding well to writing in the BIG Journal and looking up verses in the Bible. The mentors coming to class really help with discussions. The confirmands also like the hands-on activities and games." —Susan Stackhouse, teacher, First Presbyterian Church, Goldsboro, North Carolina

"Big God Big Questions has been spot-on with Reformed theology, age-appropriate questions, and leadership resources. We love the Infographics." —Michelle Thomas-Bush, associate pastor, Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina
