Dear Friends,
Thankfully no one was here when the tree fell, so no one got hurt. There is a large hole in our roof that is currently covered in tarps. The damage is mostly over the library, nursery, hallway, and Rev. Alexis' office. There is some water damage inside the church. We will need a new roof, insulation, and about 15 rafters replaced. The floors are also being replaced and we will need to repaint all of the walls and replace some of the furniture and books.
The tree has mostly been cleaned up and we are beginning the process of cleaning up and rebuilding the inside. The handicap ramp is damaged, but usable.
We are so thankful for all of your prayers and support. We are closed the next 2 weeks which will give us a little bit of time to make the structure safe for our programs. Construction will begin soon and we hope to be back to normal as soon as possible. We are working with our insurance to make sure we can get back to normal quickly.
There is still time before the end of the year to make your year end contribution to make sure The Friendship Center is still a safe and loving community You can give online on our website – www.friendshipcenter-atlanta.org, or by mailing your check to the address below.
Below is a poem written in one of our poetry classes.
AT THE FRIENDSHIP CENTER
you make friends and
have someone to talk to,
We draw and sing together
Share laughs and the joy
We eat together and hear the
good word – even if you’re
In a bad mood and grouchy
you can go for a spin on the barber chair
It’s a good place to come
We go on road trips together
Red Top Mountain, bowling
St. Simons –
We garden, sell our art work,
get flu shots, eye glasses
We play and we meditate and we do
yoga, too.
You can even bring your dog.
We are community, a very friendly place
Thank you so much for your support. You can give on-line here.
Peace & Light,
Rev. Alexis Chase, Executive Director and Vicar.
