'Tis the season for reflection on the past year. I looked over my 2018 finishes and chose my five favorites. Did I miss your favorite? What do you think should have been on the list?

Palettes inspired by Pantone Color of the Year 2019: Living Coral

I found Kona Nectarine to be the closest Kona Cotton to the upcoming Pantone Color of the Year. Living Coral may be a bit more pink. Enjoy these palettes featuring Kona Nectarine. And I shared one additional palette in yesterday's blog post.
(1) Nectarine, Honeysuckle, Watermelon, Bubble Gum, Pink.
(2) Nectarine, Terracotta, Emerald, Cypress, Aloe.
(3) Nectarine, Ultra Marine, Pepper, Steel, Cactus.
(4) Nectarine, Red, Ruby, Bone, Peach.

2018 Year of Colour

I shared the Year of Colour results from my 2018 posts on Instagram. Purple was certainly a feature in my projects this year. I wonder what color will lead the pack in 2019.

It’s that week between Christmas and New Years when it’s hard to know what day of the week it is. We just spent a week with my sister’s family to spend Christmas together. This included my 2 1/2 year old nephew and 8 week old niece. It was so nice to watch the cousins enjoy spending time together and relaxing around the house. We did a couple holiday adventures which I recommend for people of all ages. The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade was festive and entertaining. We viewed it from Balboa Island, and also enjoyed delicious Balboa Bars as a treat while we were there. We also visited the Chinese Lantern Festival in Pomona, CA. (This one is still open through January 6.) There were a variety of beautiful animals creations to enjoy, as well as artisans and performances. (See two photos above from the Chinese Lantern Festival.)

I enjoyed the holiday break, but I missed my sewing machine and I’m happy to get back to some waiting projects. First up is quilting my December Whimsical and Wonky Island Batik Ambassador Challenge, my latest Improv Tumbler quilt. Then I have all my curved pieces cut to stitch up a Curated Quilts Curves Mini Quilt Challenge quilt by January 2. I love the vibrant palette for this one. Then I’ll be starting and finishing two more projects for January blog hops. Plus Project QUILTING will be underway starting January 6. The quilting year will be off and running in January! What’s atop your 2019 list?

I’ll be down in Tehachapi to visit the Tehachapi Mountain Quilters Guild and share my Rules and Options of Planned Improv Piecing lecture on January 7, followed by an all day Planned Improv: Scrappy Squares workshop on January 8. Then I’ll bounce back to the Bay Area to share my Planned Improv: All About Angles demo at the Northern California Quilt Council All-Star Review on January 9.

In business news, Craftsy slashed their pattern shop yesterday. (In the quilt pattern category they dropped from 22517 patterns down to 2468!) Designers were informed last week if their shop would stay or go, and if their shop would be staying, told that some individual patterns may be removed. I had a shop that was not eliminated, and yesterday found that they only kept one of my three patterns. The link below will take you to my Back and Forth Baby Quilt pattern, but currently Floating Hexagons and my Ombre HST Coloring Page are not for sale. Not to worry, I was already working on creating a shop on my self-hosted site, Sarah Goer Quilts. I still need to work out the logistics of which products I will use to create my shop, but I’ve completed the first step of enabling HTTPS on my site, a security requirement for e-commerce. I’ll let you know when the new Sarah Goer Quilts Shop is up and running. (It may take a little while.)

I was asked to join the team of co-hosts for the 2019 Finish-A-Long. I look forward to celebrating finishes with the hundreds of participants. Don’t know what the Finish Along is? Check out all the details on my website. Q1 Goals linkup opens on January 10. Stay tuned!

Available in my Craftsy Shop

Back and Forth is designed to feature a medium to large scale print, surrounded by coordinating fabrics. It works well with a variety of solids or blenders. It's the perfect size for a baby or as a cuddle quilt for a toddler.
