Happy New Year!!! Please take a few moments to read about our upcoming programs in 2019!

We hope you had a great 2018 and that your journey with T1D was happy and healthy. We look forward to providing support to you and your family in 2019!

In 2018 T1DE executed new education programs and we received very good feedback from the public, community organizations and the medical community who were involved in these programs. The "Feinman Lecture Series" presented the latest research on the benefits of a low carb diet for diabetes and the related cancer research to medical professionals in Lynchburg and UVA. We plan to continue to expand our variety of educational programs in 2019.

We continue to partner with Salus Education’s “Diabetes at School” Program to provide standardized training for Lynchburg City Schools staff. The school nurses and medical aides are very grateful for this "one-of-a-kind" program. Also to support an additional community need, Salus has graciously offered their 5 hour online training program to newly diagnosed families, as well as any caregiver that would benefit for FREE. Contact us for more information.

In 2019 we will pilot a new “one- on-one” coaching program for individuals, parents, and caregivers of people with diabetes. These coaches will not be health coaches, but rather coaches versed in the life challenges that come with managing the 24-7-365 of diabetes. This program is available to individuals (teens on a case by case basis) who are desiring support as they climb above challenges related to living with diabetes. Let us know if you might be interested and keep a lookout for more details in January.

Our “Knowledge is Power” book program is now a year round program that provides FREE books to individuals and families living with diabetes. This is a very popular program as many report that books have had a major positive impact on their life with diabetes. If you have not taken part please contact us for more information, and please pass this resource on to anyone you may know who could benefit.

We will continue to parter with local organizations such as the Forest Lions Club Back to School Health Fair where we provided glucose and A1c checks to families including children within our high risk population. We also look forward to continued sponsorship of local community events that support and encourage healthy eating and exercise for families.

We look forward to an exciting 2019. If you are interested in getting more involved in our group please let us know! We have an open board meeting on Wed January 16th that you are welcome to attend. Please contact us if you are interested!
