What a year 2018 was! Aranya Solutions became an official 501c3 nonprofit and got our first major project off the ground in Nepal!!

We are working with 3 villages now and they just completed their Shiitake Mushroom Farming training, supporting local growth and development.

We also got involved in a couple other projects locally and globally, including Africa and working with Starhawk in Regenerative Land Management!!

Read on to see all that we have going on - and how you can get involved!

We're thrilled to announce we have partnered with
Starhawk
in launching a new training program in

Regenerative Land Management

Kick-off Intensive May 14-23 near Sebastopol, CA.Taught by Starhawk, Charles Williams and many guest teachers.

Create a meaningful livelihood restoring land and revitalizing community!

This new program is designed to give you the skills, experience and confidence to run a farm, ranch, retreat center or urban farm in ways that heal damaged ecosystems and sequester carbon.

The program takes two years with two ten-day intensives, and internships, all guided by a personal mentor. These internships can be international, learn anywhere around the world, for farming and land management practices from different cultures.

The opportunity—Half the farmland in North America is due to change hands in the next two decades as farmers age out. It’s vital that we get that land into the hands of those who know how manage it. Now is the time for regenerative land management.

~Global Activity~

We went to Africa!

At the end of May 2018, the first ever East Africa Permaculture convergence was held in Uganda. Hosted by Sector 39, the convergence brought together participants to share local knowledge, network by geography and interest groups, and build stronger connections among the African Permaculture Movement.

In partnership with Abundant Earth Foundation  we made a video of the participants experience.

Video on our work with Abundant Earth Foundation in Africa!

Uganda - East Africa Permaculture Convergence

Abundant Earth Foundation was proud to sponsor us and 15 scholarships that allowed the participation of people who would not otherwise have been able to attend.

Nepal project update!

True to our roots where we started, in Nepal, the project is doing well, 6 months in. Here's the overview and updates.

Katrina is going back to Nepal for the month of April, supporting the project developments and determine next steps.

We are working with three remote villages, Dingam, Chipling and Thankani who are still rebuilding from the 2015 earthquake in Nepal. Done in partnership with the local Nepal Rotary Club of Rudramti and Santa Rosa East on a Rotary International Global Grant. We crowdsourced and raised $10,000 and Rotary International matched that for $35,000 total to support the request and needs of this community.

The main purpose is to improve quality of life and income through sustainable agriculture training in:

  • Shiitake mushroom farming
  • Kiwi Farming
  • Beekeeping
  • Womens Empowerment

There are plans to expand this project by building greater growing facilities, repairing the roads for distribution and transport, and build a community center.

Leadership training: this is the first time that the local people have ever participated in any kind of leadership development training.  Villagers learned about inherent capacities with in them, to support one another and to lead incorporating collaboration and team building.

Key Achievements so far:
  1. Formed a local Village Council & Rotary Community Corp between the 3 villages
  2. Conducted Leadership Development Training
  3. Conducted Agriculture Training & Developed 9 Agriculture Demonstration Plots
  4. Shiitake Mushroom training and supplies for growing
  5. Kiwi Farming training
  6. Beekeeping Training and built beehives
  7. Coordination with local Government Representative

We are doing a fundraiser for the Nepal project by showing a documentary about living in Nepal

"Daughters of the Curved Moon" by Shakthi Films.
The film maker will join us for a Q & A!
March 29th, 6-10pm

Arlene Francis Center, Santa Rosa, CA

This is a fundraiser for our International Projects in collaboration with Rotary International.

Click below for a trailer of the film.

We showed this film this past summer back in Katrina's home town, Helena, Montana at the legendary Myrna Loy Center for the Arts, a dream come true!

This was done in collaboration with a group of extraordinary folks who are also doing International community development work in India, Nepal, Tibet and beyond!

We had a great turn out with the film maker answering Q&A
 even the Mayor came!!

From left to right: The film maker, Sophie Dia Pegrum, Aranya Solutions ED Katrina Zavalney, event organizer Marc Scow and the Mayor of Helena, MT Wilmot Collins!!

We would be happy to show this film at any location, perhaps Los Angeles friends want to show it... where the film maker lives. Please let us know if you want to show it or be involved.
