Dear AZSA community,
2018 went by in a flash and we are so excited about expanding on the great work that our volunteers have been doing. Being a volunteer with AZSA means so much more than just thinking about sustainability. Our volunteer are acting on sustainability by becoming leaders in their communities. This includes: forging new partnerships, managing teams, writing grants, embarking on exciting projects, and more.
Here are just a few stats from 2018:
- 40 volunteers in leadership positions
- 400 volunteer hours cleaning up North Mountain in Phoenix and Indian Bend Wash in Tempe
- 44 trees planted in the North Tempe Neighborhood and the New School for the Arts & Academics
- 100 volunteer hours maintaining and assisting local farms
- 11 low income grammar schools with vertical gardens in their classrooms
- 5,000 students educated on the value of eating more fruits and vegetables
We have big plans for 2019 including installing our solar energy powered playground, creating a tree nursery for children to learn about the environment, creating sustainable place based spaces around the Valley, and more!
You can contribute to AZSA by volunteering your time and/or becoming a donor.
