Best Of 2018: The Art Of Collage And Assemblage Take Wing

This profile of Lexington artist Carlton Wing by James Fields illustrates some of what UnderMain does best: long-form pieces of unique content with excellent writing, vivid images, and embedded audio that exploits the possibilities of our digital platform. In this case to illuminate the recent work of a local artist who has come through the proverbial eye of the needle.

2019 promises to be a banner year of UnderMain! In furtherance of our goal to produce insightful writing about local and regional art and artists, UnderMain has been awarded a grant by the Great Meadows Foundation to produce in-depth essay profiles of the work of twelve Kentucky artists and to continue our work of reviewing exhibitions.

As a companion to the written work and supported by Great Meadows, UnderMain will present in March Critical Mass III at The Carnegie in Covington, Kentucky, the latest in our series of conversations about contemporary art, artists, and art writing. Watch for more upcoming details about the date for this event and the participants in, what promises to be, a lively conversation!
