We had a fabulous 2018 balancing creative exploration and sheer grit to get things done!!...Winterhall Studios is the name we have continued to return to over the years when we needed a shortened term for the culmination of Alexander Volkov Fine Art LLC and Heidi Breyer Music. It kinda popped into our heads when we were hunkered down one winter...so, after many years of not using it much, we would like you to be able to enjoy a newsletter that updates you on both corners of our creative world. You have received this email because you are either in contact directly with me via email or have subscribed to one of our other music or art newsletters. We hope you will stick around to follow our progress! In our emails we will tell you both high-points and low-points, new products, upcoming dates (concerts and art shows) and ask for your feedback. Alla Prima's
In the literal sense, Alla Prima means at first try, the technique of creating a painting in one sitting applying layer upon layer of wet paint. Alexander's Alla Prima's are originals that he completes in one to two days (as opposed to his fine brush oil originals which can take 10 days to 4 weeks). With this technique of fast, passionate painting, Alexander uses both acrylic (for the under-painting) and oil, allowing for faster drying and with the use of larger brushes, the result is more impressionistic in style. As these 'studies' are created more quickly they are offered for significantly less than his signature oil paintings.

Original Oils, Commissions, Limited Edition Regular and Embellished Giclee's and charcoals, continued to be offered but more about those another time!!

A Requiem For A New Age.
While focusing primarily on the Art this year, I am happy to announce that I will be finishing the clean-up of the score for my Requiem. Most full time musicians can whip this kind of score up within a year or so. This puppy took me 5, during which time I released 3 other albums and did many concerts while supporting our Art business...but FINALLY...this year it will be done!
I'm honored to be working with Four Time Grammy Winner Eugene Freisen on this project. Eugene is part of the Paul Winter Consort, Head of Berklee World Strings, professor at Berklee College of Music, a consummate cellist, artist and composer himself. He brings academic excellence and mentorship to my work. So grateful for your guidance, Eugene!
I will let you know when it is finished but, in the meantime I'm asking for your opinion...
What would you like to experience first? A premier performance or a recording? The magnitude of the resources will be demanding in either instance...string orchestra, piano, english horn and choir of 50-100...what say you?!! Email me back!!
