new year's resolutions

It's that time of year again...time to focus on your New Year's resolutions. Many people begin an exercise program, but abandon it before Easter. You can increase your chances for long-term success if you follow these five simple tips to achieve your fitness goals:
1. Are you ready?
Before you begin a new workout regimen make sure that you are both mentally and physically ready. Talk to your doctor about beginning a new workout routine and make sure you are healthy enough to start. Once you decide to start, have confidence in your abilities and pick a program that is enjoyable. 
2. Do you have a plan?
Now that you have decided it is time, when will you work out? Identify days and times that are convenient for you and stick with it. Second, what type of exercising will you do? Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. This should be about you - what makes it fun for you?
3. Bring a Friend
Sharing in the experience with a friend who is interested in the same New Year's Resolution plan as you will significantly increase your chances for success. Finding an exercise that you both enjoy may be challenging. Look for gyms that offer a variety of programs that are there for the picking. A workout partner will provide you with a support system and push you when you feel too lazy to get out of the house.
4. Take it Easy
Think of your resolution as a lifelong commitment to a healthier lifestyle. You are much more likely to be successful if you start with low-to-moderate intensity workouts. You may see people working 6 days a week at a very high intensity but keep in mind that no one started that way. It is perfectly acceptable to start with 3 days per week.
5. Be Realistic
One of the biggest problems with New Year's Resolutions is the goal setting. Setting them is a great idea, but make sure they are realistic and feasible. For example, a goal to lose 12 lbs by Easter is both reasonable and achievable. So is a goal to complete a 5K run by tax day though it may be potentially unsafe and dangerous. Start slow, develop a solid base of fitness and then build upon that foundation as your fitness improves.

LGBTQ Self-Defense Workshop

- Basic principles of self-defense and taking control 
- Fears, safety, and situational awareness 
- Realities of physical assaults 
- Attackers and their patterns
- Techniques and strategies to self-defense 
- Physical drills and scenarios

Class will be challenging and fun! You'll burn off calories while learning a life-saving skill.
