Calling all TV and film lovers,

Welcome to the final issue of Diversity Watch for 2018! And what a year it's been, both for the entertainment industry and right here at Mediaversity. But between the research and reviews, I wanted to pause for a moment and say: THANKS FAM! 🙌

Seriously, without your thoughtful Tweets and social shares, Mediaversity would just be where I started—shaking my fist at the television with no way of doing anything about it. So let's stay focused and continue to push for inclusion in media as we head into 2019. You can help grow the movement by forwarding this email to like-minded friends, or share our Top 10 Most Diverse Movies of 2018 on Twitter and Facebook.

Without further ado, pop some bubbly, enjoy our highlights, and I'll see you on the flipside! 🥂

Instagram Launched

In the Whac-A-Mole game of TV and film releases, we needed a faster mallet to bop new reviews out of the way. That’s why this spring we launched our Instagram account, where you can read knee-jerk reactions to the latest shows and movies without skipping a beat.

Diversity at the Box Office 2018

At the tail end of the summer, we surveyed the Top 25 most talked about films of last year to ask the question: Did diversity sell at the box office?

The answer was a resounding yes, but digging deeper we saw that the films surveyed were 26% more racially diverse than they were gender diverse. Looks like we still have our work cut out for us, ladies.

Patreon

As you can see, 2018 was big for us but between paying our diverse writers and monthly upkeep, our costs have continued to grow! So we launched our Patreon last month and already, generous donors have signed up to help cover some of our basic overhead.

We’re planning exciting new things for next year (including a big announcement coming soon…) and could do so much more with your support. Please visit our Patreon page below, check out the reward tiers, and consider signing up to be a patron. Any level would be appreciated, even $2/month goes a long way!
