DPD 5 Tackling Street Racing
Coordinated Efforts with Aurora PD

District 5 Police Department has been coordinating efforts with Aurora Police Department to address drag racing. On December 7th, Aurora encountered a large number of racers that were congregating at 6th and Chambers. After Aurora Police Department sent several units to the parking lot that the racers were located.

Later that day, upwards of 300 cars started congregating in Green Valley Ranch. DPD received complaints from local businesses, went over to the King Soopers parking lot and made a PA announcement for those vehicles to leave or be ticketed for trespassing. Aurora Police Department waiting at city limits then ticketed racers for equipment violation and speeding.

Montbello Gets Traffic Calming
Vision Zero on our Community Streets

Moving forward with Denver’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries on our roads by 2030, Denver Public Works recently made safety enhancements in Montbello to help those who are walking reach their destinations safely.

Denver Public Works has added a pedestrian refuge island and a Rapid Flashing Beacon on a stretch of Albrook Drive between Peoria Street and Tulsa Court to help calm traffic and promote safer crossings. Last year, a driver hit and killed a pedestrian who was trying to cross Albrook.

The new pedestrian refuge island will help provide a visual cue for drivers to slow down, while the new Rapid Flashing Beacon will improve pedestrian visibility and increase the rate at which drivers yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.

To activate the beacon, a pedestrian pushes the button, which causes the beacon to flash rapidly, letting drivers know a pedestrian is waiting to cross.

Mission: To discuss issues regarding juvenile justice, youth-centered public safety and ways to improve the system.

The Youth Advisory Council is a group of engaged, dedicated, and diverse young people ages 11-18 who are committed to helping young people make good choices and not ending up in the criminal justice cycle. The Council will work with the District Attorney to gather community concerns, generate ideas for improvement, and discuss the role of the District Attorney’s office.

Youth Advisory Council Composition
The Program Administrator will select 14 to 20 diverse applicants who represent the community to serve on the council. The members will have demonstrated commitment to community and eagerness to make a difference. The Council members will use their insight and experience to look critically at their communities and identify problems and resources to help solve those problems.

The Council will also have guest speakers and presentations regarding different programs and initiatives important to the District Attorney so that the Council and their respective communities are aware of the programs and also so that they may participate in them as well.

The Council will meet the third Wednesday of every month from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
