Happy New Year from the Goodland United Methodist Church!
In our culture the moving from one calendar year to the next comes with all sorts of expectations and hopes. Many of us will make resolutions to better ourselves in the coming year. Others of us will take time to reflect on the previous year and hope for more of the same, or maybe a different stroke of luck as the months go by. If you're like me, you hope to not have to rewrite too many checks or documents because you can't remember the change of writing 2019 instead of 2018.
For many United Methodist Churches and other congregations in the Wesleyan tradition, they start the year off with a Covenant Service. They do this to refocus and recommit their lives to God as we ring in a new year. A major component of this service is a prayer that is known by many as "The Wesley Covenant Prayer." This prayer was adapted from the Puritan tradition by John Wesley and can still be found in our Book of Worship today. I've shared the prayer below for you to use in your personal devotions as we begin this new year together.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Zach
