Happy new year from your beloved Vikings.
Let's make sure we keep in touch in 2019.

First up:
Synagogue Showcase

With Eurosonic just around the corner, we can't wait to host our own mini-festival in the Folkingestraat once again! This second edition, taking place on the Wednesday and Thursday (16-17 January), already promises to be bigger and better: six indie/folk acts, two serene evenings, one stunning synagogue. The line-up has been announced today. Find out more by clicking on the poster – and while you're at it, take a look at this teaser...

Songs from a Room

A little while ago, we were making our way towards The Hague when our car suddenly broke down. Luckily we still made it in time for this intimate gig, organised and filmed by the widely-known Sofar Sounds. Press play to view this stripped-down version of "Listen/Repeat", recently released on their platform.

Thanks for streaming!

In the past year, our music has featured in all sorts of online videos and vlogs – from Mexican mechanics and Canadian camera-testers to an iPhone hacker in China and an Australian teen soap. As people around the world have started to discover us Vikings, we have come to a nice milestone: "Trip the Light" is now officially our first track to reach ten thousand plays on Spotify.

Super secret try-out

Meanwhile, we have completed the recordings for our follow-up record! Any excuse to throw a party, so we quickly invited a bunch of folks over to our studio for a live try-out. We can't wait to share our new music with all of you, so stay tuned for releases this year – and keep an eye out for any upcoming shows as well.

De Biotape

Everyone's favourite viking Marijn was part of the team that set up this successfully crowdfunded project. Its goal was for the growing music community at De Biotoop – which we are a part of – to be captured on a double LP. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible! Before too long, an announcement will be made about the official presentation of this special vinyl mixtape.

In other news...

After one-and-a-half years at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Niels is proving to be a straight-A student. But as this picture (after 88 takes) shows, he's still human.
A few months ago, Joe went online and bought himself a Höfner bass – without at first realising that the seller was none other than Balthazar's Simon Casier.
When Marijn returned home after an October holiday in Florida, it was only to find that his girlfriend had moved house (and therefore, so had he).
Believe it or not, this guitar – which The Tallest Man on Earth played on during his recent European tour – was built by our very own Jeppe.
We hope you enjoyed reading our newsletter.
Have a good one.
