Directors Report

Happy New Year!

Thanks to everyone that helped out with a proxy, or volunteered over the festive period. A particular thanks to those people and families that came down to help on Christmas morning.

The Trigg Island SLSC Patrols Facebook page has been running hot these school holidays as people cooperate to organise proxies. Jen Taylor deserves special mention here, for helping our new SRCs transition to patrolling.

Many of you will have noticed the new Drone team using TISLSC's latest life saving technology. Email me at lifesavingeducation@triggisland.com if you want to get involved.

Please check your rosters for the Australia day patrols. If you need substitutes, now is the time to act to make sure that you patrol team is not disadvantaged.

Dates and times for the next Bronze course are 17-24 January, (including Saturday and Sunday) from 8am to 1pm. Contact Kat at bronze@triggisland.com to register your interest. The Bronze cert is a difficult but satisfying qualification that consolidates your skills, and is of huge value to your patrol team. We always need more Bronzies.

Re-qualification season is over. My heartfelt thanks to the Education team that have put in a massive effort: Around 550 proficiencies across all awards.

Trigg Island SLSC is growing, and Trigg is one of the most treacherous beaches in the Metro area. If you would like to help us to maintain our excellent standards, at a club where lives are saved every season, then please contact Cas at education@triggisland.com to join the Education team.

Carnival Patrol Excels

Last Sunday whilst the Trigg Surf Carnival was being conducted in windy, messy conditions, the carnival patrol was stationed just north of the craft arena.During some of the craft events the skis and boards were being washed across into the patrol area, so the patrol set up a human chain to stop and remove the craft to safety. During the patrol there were a few minor injuries requiring first aid and also assisting the arrival of Santa.
The Carnival Referee, Justin seconded our senior IRB Driver, Dean Brooks to assist in carnival matters. It was only five minutes later that Neil Bowie rostered in the tower, radio the patrol and using the four Pā€™s he reported a swimmer caught in a large rip out the back of the point. Fortunately Craig Piercy and Gail Hall had just signed on and immediately leapt into action in the IRB. Due to the sea conditions Craig decided to do a parallel run to get to the patient in time. On arrival Gail pulled a 70 year old out of the water, he had with him flippers and a hand board he was very exhausted and extremely grateful to the IRB crew. Some time later another call from the tower, this time Bob McKee reported that a board rider was in the same rip and struggling, another successful rescue and when the young board rider was returned to shore he could not thank the patrol enough, explaining how he was consistently blown from his board and did not think that anyone would see him!
This proves that vigilance in the tower is essential. A great effort by the Carnival Patrol, which has an average age of??
