Authenticity Letter

You have probably witnessed someone in your surroundings longing for more balance in their life, balancing academic work and... you know... life!

Depending upon the phase (of your project or career) you are in right now... it may even be you who is longing for more balance in your life.

This letter is all about slowing down, and attuning to the theme of balance. And on how to get through the anti-sociable phases of deep writing and thinking in an unapologetic yet emphatic manner towards your inner circle.

It won't make the predictable dilemmas and phases of stress go away; it will give you the opportunity to navigate them in a more accepting manner.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Anna

Please share this letter with whomever you feel you should be sharing this letter with. Sharing widely is greatly appreciated.

The contents

  • Deep longing for 'more balance' in your life
  • The Authencity Calendar: Huizinga PhD and NOSTER PhD and ResMA Workshops coming up
  • Academics about Anna's Coaching
  • Authenticity News: Shut Up & Write Workshops (2nd Wednesdays of the Month)

Deep longing for balance...

  • "My family and friends just do not get what it is like to dive into 'deep writing, contemplating, thinking'. It's frustrating! And they feel neglected..."
  • "Gosh... I just cannot seem to get started on writing, thinking..."
  • "I would just like life to be stable, you know?"

Depending upon the phase you’re in, in terms of your academic work and career: you may be longing for more balance in your life.

Is it really is ‘balance’ that you’re longing for though?

If you feel immediately triggered by this question, maybe even... annoyed..., please, bear with me as I would like to help you discern whether it is 'balance', 'stability' or 'rest' that you are longing for... I am offering 5 steps in finding an answer:

  1. reading our bodily signs
  2. asking the question: mine or yours?
  3. getting specific: is it balance, stability, or rest?
  4. making time for our most important and not urgent matters (spoiler.... it's your research project and/or your vision on teaching and management)
  5. caring for predictable anti-social phases during deep writing and contemplating, and the tensions and dilemmas these phases bring to your social life...

If you are struggling at times with balancing these predictable phases of deep thinking and deep writing with the other spheres in your life, reading this free, to-the-point E-Book may turn out to be very helpful...

  • Navigating the conflicting rhythms of social and academic life
  • Learning 'language' to be clear and levelheaded about anti-social phases of deep writing and thinking to you inner circle
  • It's not you, it's not your inner circle, it's... find out... read the E-Book 'Deep Longing for 'More Balance' in Your Life. 5 Steps. Pointers and Perspectives'

Yes, I'm curious to read up upon 'balancing work and life'

Academics about Anna's Coaching

Harold* (37): "Working with you has been tremendously helpful to get my head around some major issues. Just feel so grateful."

Suzanne (28): "It's been a lovely... not easy (!) journey. I've finally learned to take myself seriously as a scholar without losing my sense of humor. Thank you. Gosh... thanks for laughing about my silly patterns as well."

Merel (33): "The coaching sessions came right in time. Thanks for helping to acknowledge some serious self-defeating patterns. So glad to have become aware of the unhelpful internal dialogues I've lived with for so long."

Nancy* (52): "To be honest, I felt a little awkward with your age at first. But it was so easy to open up about the draining sides of  supervising and management. Figuring out what it takes for me to really slow down, and get a clear sense of what I'm doing on the one hand, and want to be doing on the other has made such a difference."

*Names adjusted at the request of my coachees.
