Community Service Spotlight

Maggie Lipinsky is a senior who volunteers with Hopelink where she works in the warehouse and helps transport items. This is an incredible help to Hopelink and the people there greatly appreciate her service. Even people who volunteered with her at the Holiday Bazaar could see the helpful and thoughtful person she is as she checked-in with each vendor and asked if they needed any additional help.  Thank you, Maggie, for serving in our community! You are inspiring others to follow your lead and help others in the same way.

You did it again!

A big shout-out to all the volunteers and everyone who brought cookies to our Student Recognition event; it was a great success! Because of your help, every student got their well-deserved reward. Check out the picture from our event! We had enough cookies and volunteers to make this event fun and make our students feel appreciated. Thank you!

Drum roll, please!

Eastlake High School PTSA has recently been recognized by Washington State PTA as a Silver Membership Growth Award recipient!  We were presented with this award for enrolling members equaling at least 105% of our previous year’s total membership. That means our PTA is growing! Thank you to everyone who has become a member so far this year: YOU are the reason our PTA achieved this award! If you have not yet signed up for a 2018-2019 PTA membership, please consider joining today. By doing so, you are demonstrating your support for our PTA and all if does for our Eastlake community. Click here to join.

There is no better time to be part of the EHS PTSA!

There will be a PTSA Membership meeting coming up on January 16 at 6 pm. Come join us and hear about all the ways the PTSA benefits our school and community.

The EHS PTSA has several volunteer positions available for board, committee chairs, or for smaller, well-defined and short-term volunteer opportunities.  Whatever your experience or available time, chances are we have an opportunity for you to contribute.

As part of the EHS PTSA, you can make a difference by helping the phenomenal teachers and staff ensure that the families and students of Eastlake have access to the resources, tools, and support they need for the best education experience possible.

These positions provide valuable opportunities to build relationships with other outstanding volunteers and staff members in a supportive, positive and fun environment. Serving on the board is practical and informative, and it is also rewarding and energizing because what you do supports so many people in our community.

Please click here to view our current opportunities and please email volunteers@ehsptsa.org if you might be interested in contributing your time and skills to benefit our students and staff.

Fun volunteer opportunity in January: DECA Regional Competition

Eastlake DECA are participating in a regional competition in Bellevue on January 10, and they need volunteers to be judges (30), to help with event logistics (5), and to be parent chaperones (7). Good news- volunteers do not have to have a student in the competition!   The Area 3 Region DECA Competition will be held on Thursday, January 10 from 7:30AM - 12PM at the Meydenbauer in Bellevue.

JUDGES are responsible for listening to and judging role play scenarios. The assigned categories for judges are Hotel and Lodging Marketing and Human Resources Management this year. No experience needed – will train and mentor the day of the event. Just a background in business, marketing, and management recommended.
EVENT LOGISTICS volunteers will help with event timing, scoring, and student ushering.
PARENT CHAPERONES are responsible for riding the bus to/from the Meydenbauer Center with students and supervising while there.

If you are able to help, please click here to sign up for this event.

Host Homes- King County

The YMCA of Greater Seattle and Friends of Youth have launched a program that will efficiently and effectively house homeless youth. Host Homes King County connects homeless youth with supportive hosts in the community that have a spare room who can provide short-term, stable housing. They are seeking individuals and families who are willing to provide a caring and stable environment, and host a young person (12-24 years old) for up to 6 months. Hosts will be able to provide young people with the support needed to develop independent living skills and a safe space to work toward becoming stable and self-sufficient. Most importantly, young people are able to build and expand their community.
For more information on the Host Homes King County program, contact Kimberly Turner at kimberlyturner@seattleymca.org or 206-458-8971, or visit the website.

Fundraiser- Ice Skate in Bellevue and raise money for your school

November 23-December 21, 2018 & January 1-13, 2019

The Bellevue Downtown Association is thrilled to provide a turn-key fundraising opportunity for schools in the area, including Eastlake High School! This will be held at the 2018-2019 Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink presented by Alaska Mileage Plan. Each year, the ice rink is set up as a temporary structure at the Bellevue Downtown Park. This rink features the region’s largest covered open-air ice skating experience. Admission is $15/person (includes skate rental), and $10/person for ages eight and under. Details about the rink here

The Bellevue Downtown Association is offering $3 from every paying visitor from our school who notify rink staff upon arrival what school they are affiliated with. A tally is kept of the total number of visits from the dates listed above and a check to Eastlake High School will be forwarded by the end of January 2019. For example, if you have 50 people skate on December 3 and 45 on January 8, you will have raised $285 for our school. So easy! You were going to go ice skating anyway, right?!

Ice skating opens to the public on Friday, November 23 and closes on Sunday, January 13 and is a part of the Bellevue Magic Season. Families can make it a night of holiday fun with a visit to Snowflake Lane at The Bellevue Collection and stroll through Garden d’Lights at the Bellevue Botanical Garden.
