Abha Aggarwal - Reading International Solidarity Centre

Abha is a secondary trained teacher with over ten years of experience of working in schools, colleges and with youth projects. She now delivers training to educators on a range of global citizenship themes with a particular interest in critical thinking and community building. Abha has experience of working with teachers and pupils in examining the sensitive issues of race equality, and in helping schools move their practice forward.

In this session, Abha will share research showing how ‘colourblind’ policies and strategies in schools are limited in addressing issues of racial inequality for BAME teachers and BAME pupils. She will give an overview of CRT (Critical Race Theory) and how it is being used to make sense of, deconstruct and challenge racial inequality in schools. Abha will then suggest some useful directions forward to advance racial equality in and through schools.
