Upcoming Services
Services take place at 9:30 am on Sundays in the UUS Sanctuary. A Social Hour follows around 10:30.

December 30th: "Through Discomfort to Growth," Dan Gall
For many people, the new year is a time of transition. Each year we grow—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. But growth, however well-planned, can be risky and leave us vulnerable. Join three UUs as they share their stories of the discomfort, vulnerability, and ultimately the reward of growth and transition.
January 6th: ”Failure is a Possibility: Or Is It?" Rev. Diane Dowgiert
During the month of January, we will be considering the theme of possibility. At this time of year, most of us probably know what it’s like to make a resolution and fail to keep it. And yet, to embrace new possibilities means opening to the possibility of failure. Lately, experts in the fields of education, psychology and business have been extolling the benefits of failure. What role does failure play in our religious and spiritual lives?
RE and Childcare
Each Sunday, 1st-6th graders will be able to take part in activities directly related to that Sunday’s worship theme and story. We also offer classes for Pre-K/K, Jr. High, and Sr. High youth. For more information about their themes please contact the Director of Lifespan Religious Education.

Our Nursery is open for infant through preschool-aged childcare available starting at 9:20 am.
The Offering in December Goes to

The Free Lunch Program

Your generosity this month helps pay the expenses of this important community program, which provides a healthy noon meal six days a week. The UUS Free Lunch volunteers are one of our most enthusiastic and energetic groups. Our first lunch was served to a few dozen hungry guests in the basement of the Wesley Foundation on August 8th, 1986 and we have not missed a second Friday since then!

Cash or checks to UUS (Free Dental Clinic on the memo line) can be given on Sundays, online, or mailed to the office. You can also text “GivetoUUSIC Offering $--” to 73256. Thank you!

Out of Office Next Week
I will be taking vacation time with family until January 2nd. I will be doing a little off-site work during that time, so I will be checking email occasionally if you need to contact me.

From Your Congregational Administrator, Emma Barnum

Limited Office Hours This Week
The UUS office will be closed Thursday and Friday. Admin Assistant Nik Jakob and I will be working limited hours to cover essential tasks, but will not be observing normal office hours and the building will not be unlocked. We will resume normal hours starting Sunday, December 30th (although the office will be completely closed on Tuesday, January 1st, in observance of New Years).

Newest Monthly Newsletter Available
The January issue of the UUS News is now available on our website. Hard copies will be mailed to subscribers tomorrow and can also be picked up at the Welcome Table on Sundays.

2018 Expenses and Deposits
Please submit any outstanding reimbursement requests for UUS expenses before the end of the year if possible. This will help our accountants close out the annual books and start the new budget cycle in a timely and organized manner. All expenses must be approved by the committee or staff leader in charge of the appropriate budget line.

I will be doing the last income deposit of 2018 on Monday, December 31st, before noon (when the bank closes). If there are any payments you want to have officially processed and deposited before year's end, please get them to me by 9 am that day (The mail will likely not arrive before noon on Monday).

From Your Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Jessica Zimmer

Out of Office Next Week
I will be out of the office until January 3rd.

What Does it Mean to be a People of Mystery?
Each week we will be sharing resources as an opportunity for members to dig deeper into our monthly theme. Here are a few to check out this week!
  • Question to consider: Do you spend more time treating life like a problem to be solved, a game to be won, a struggle to be survived or a mystery to be lived?
  • Wise Words:
"Look how big the sky is,
the deep distances between stars.
Little speck, that’s you;
laughable speck, that’s me.
How could we contain The Truth,
all that overwhelming light?
Our truth is just a pinprick
in mystery’s velvet curtain." —Janet Hutchinson
