Pastors Pen Reflection

"Our dreams must be stronger than our memories. We must be pulled by our dreams, rather than pushed by our memories."
--Jesse Jackson

 Dear <<Name>>
       Jesus is Here!
Jesus came into this world to be close to us and save us from the evil of the world. I believe there was, and is, a longing in the heart of God to be close. We know of course that Jesus arrived fully human and vulnerable. Jesus came to human life birthed with love.  Jesus came to ignite our tenderness and compassion and because he came as a baby his first desires were that of touch, holding and being cared for by others. The loving touch of a parent or loved one is a powerful gift. Everyone has the basic need for touch and there have been studies done that support the importance of touch.

For some who have suffered abuse or inappropriate touch, this act of compassionate touch is difficult. I know from my own history of being abused it takes the practice of positive touch to overcome. Positive reinforcement of reaching out and touching someone helps heal us.

Touch makes us vulnerable but it also strengthens us and I am not just talking about the physical touch but the spiritual touch of God. Each Christmas season I ask myself if I still long for God and the touch of God in my life? Am I still curious about Jesus and this holy birth and the love he brought to the world? Am I willing to accept the baby Jesus, accept the man Jesus, accept the mind-blowing make room story in my life?  The answer for me continues to be yes. Yes, I am still intrigued and ignited by the amazingness of God, the grace, the love, the joy of new birth. Yes, I am willing to make room for Christ in my heart and in my life! Yes, I still desire the soul touch of God in me!

Even with so much that I do not understand in our world I can understand making room for Jesus in my heart. I can make room for Jesus to move in and touch me where I need that encounter of healing, hope, renewal or whatever I need. I don’t want to miss the Christ in Christmas to encounter that amazing gift.

Maybe this Christmas we can reach out and touch others in a physical way that will have meaning in a spiritual way too!

God thank you for the Birth of Jesus and the rebirth of your touch on our souls. Amen…

Blessings
