Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

St Anthony

Saint Anthony of Padua, (Aug 15, 1195 – Jun 13, 1231)
St Anthony was a Portuguese Catholic priest and friar of the Franciscan Order. He was born Fernando Martins de Bulhões and raised by a wealthy family in Lisbon, Portugal. At the age of fifteen he asked to be sent to the Abbey of Santa Cruz in Coimbra, Portugal. During his time in the Abbey, he learned theology and Latin. Following his ordination to the priesthood, Franciscan friars settled nearby in a small hermitage and Fernando felt a longing to join their order. When he joined the Franciscans he changed his name to Anthony.  St Anthony’s contemporaries including Pope Gregory IX  acknowledged him for his powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and undying love and devotion to the poor and the sick. He was beatified and canonized on May 30, 1232, less than 1 year after his death, one of the most quickly canonized saints in church history.  St Anthony was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church on Jan 16, 1946. He is the patron saint of lost things; his feast day is Jun 13th.

Saint Anthony, perfect  imitator of Jesus, who received from God the special power of restoring lost things, grant that I may find (mention your petition) which has been lost. At least restore to me peace and tranquility of mind, the loss of which has afflicted me even more than my material loss.

To this favor I ask another of you: that I may always remain in possession of the true good that is God. Let me rather lose all things than lose God, my supreme good. Let me never suffer the loss of my greatest treasure, eternal life with God. Amen.

2.      If the person is NOT BREATHING, please stand up, interrupt the Mass and in a clear voice announce that we have a medical emergency. Ask that someone call 911  and give location of OLPH Church (St. Clair & Mt.
